Handy Mike’s Handyman Services 412597849 | Government Grant Application

Handy Mike’s Handyman Services | Application Preview

Handy Mike’s Handyman Services is applying for a government grant to establish a permanent 40x40 workshop. The goal is to create a safe and organized space for tools and equipment that have been accumulated over 18 years. The owner believes that having this dedicated workspace will enable the business to grow, allowing for the production of custom furniture and cabinets, as well as expanding services into tree work, which has been a significant client request.

The owner emphasizes a strong work ethic developed over more than 20 years, highlighting a loyal client base who often return for services. However, the lack of proper storage has limited the ability to take on new clients for the past four years. Tools currently exposed to the elements are deteriorating and contributing to missed opportunities.

In the competitive landscape, Handy Mike’s faces challenges from local handyman services like Jack of All Trades, Max Home Repair, and True Blue of Franklin, which offer various home maintenance services. Handy Mike’s competitive edge lies in a commitment to quality, punctuality, and honesty. The owner’s perfectionist nature and personable approach have built strong client relationships, with a willingness to share knowledge and help clients even when unable to take on projects directly. This dedication fosters client loyalty and provides a compelling case for grant approval.

  • Funding Usage

I am wanting to create a permanent 40x40 structure for my business. I would like to have a workshop and a safe location to store all my tools and equipment that I have collected over the past 18 years.

  • Business Plan

If I have a workshop and safe location I know I will be able to grow my business. I have had clients ask for specialty furniture or custom cabinets. This is not possible to do without the proper shelter to use my tools. I also have a lot of bigger equipment that needs storage. I am hoping to get into some tree work as well. That has been a huge request of me. I have worked tremendously hard for the past 20+ years. I would love to be able to provide more custom services for my clients. All of my clients are repeat clients. I have not had the time to take on anyone new in about 4 years. This is partly due to the fact that I have no where to organize and store my tools. I have tools that unfortunately sit out in the elements and go bad. I try to keep them under the porch but there are just too many tools and not enough room. I hate passing up amazing opportunities to help clients, however with the proper space I just can not produce quality product.

  • Self Identified Competition

Jack of All Trades- he does a lot of “honey-do” list around our local area. Max Home Repair- they do small home repairs and disability services. True Blue of Franklin- provides a helping hand around the house inside and out. They do seasonal work, maintenance, house cleaning As my clients will tell you, I am somewhat of a perfectionist…. I am on time, show up when I say and I am always honest. My clients appreciate these things about me so they return. I do have a great relationship with each of my clients and am very much a people person. I share information and my ideas freely. If someone calls and I just don’ t have the time to go do the project I will instruct them how they could do it themselves.
