Atlantic Lobster Project Lacking as of current | Government Grant Application

Atlantic Lobster Project | Application Preview

The Atlantic Lobster Project is seeking government grants to fund the acquisition and maintenance of a lobster boat. The requested funding will cover parts and services to keep the boat operational, storage, taxes, business fees, docking, bait, fuel, and traps.

The business plan includes several key steps. First, the applicant aims to obtain a lobster boat and restore it to a functioning state. The plan is to start lobster fishing and reinvest the profits into the business as well as a scholarship fund for young athletes pursuing college. The applicant intends to work for free, alongside volunteers and students, helping them gain valuable experience while supporting the scholarship initiative.

As the business grows, the applicant envisions opening a lobster shack in Portland's East End, tapping into a unique market for seafood and providing a hands-on learning experience for high school and college students.

The motivation behind this venture is deeply personal. The applicant's late nephew, Dominic, who had a passion for the ocean and community service, inspires this effort. After his passing, the applicant seeks to honor his memory by creating a business that not only thrives but also gives back to others, particularly students in need.

The focus will be on fostering a supportive community and providing opportunities for young adults, helping them navigate challenges and pursue their educational goals through apprenticeships and scholarships.

The Atlantic Lobster Project recognizes competition from established companies like New England Fish Co, Maine Lobster Direct, and PJ Merrill. However, the primary competitive advantage lies in its heartfelt mission to support the community and empower youth, distinguishing it from other businesses in the industry.

  • Business Plan

    1) Obtain lobster boat 2) Restore to get on water 3) Lobster 4) Use monies generated to put back into business and contribute to scholarship fund 5) Versus paying employees I will be working for free in addition to my FT job as a nurse. Those helping will be volunteers and students eligible for the scholarship fund. Their time spent helping will serve as an apprenticeship- a healthy outlet, a way to give back towards an important cause. As the business profits more, I would like to open a small ocean to restaurant/lobster shack in Portland. For example, there is a spot on the East End currently on Munjoy hill that would be perfect. Grab and go...down to the Promenade. There is nothing like it right now in area. It could be year round...all food lobster and seafood related...It would serve as but another learning tool about work and business. A healthy outlet for high school and college kids to participate in. I am looking to obtain a lobster boat in honor of my late nephew, Dominic who loved all things about the ocean and being on the sea. He passed away unexpectedly last month at the young age of 23. He was a high school and college athlete, business major, and one heck of a hard worker-always using his hands having worked for Casco Bay Lines amongst other local businesses. He loved life and all people from all walks of life. He was a giver. He was the first to reach out his hand to and include the underdogs, first to help the struggling and also the less fortunate. Once able to obtain a boat and do the necessary upkeep to get the boat on the water I plan to lobster on my days off. Any earnings would be put towards a college scholarship fund for young men and women athletes that have a desire to pursue college and that may be struggling to navigate these times in varied regards. My hope is that it would also serve as a healthy outlet for high school and college aged kids-young adults to volunteer their time and allow them to give back to an important cause. If any or all of this was to come to fruition, I would use the monies to keep the scholarship going, allow it to serve as an apprenticeship and also open a small ocean to table restaurant or shack and again use the monies to keep it all going. My mission is heart driven and in honor of my nephew. It is a way to give back to the community. It is a way to help students navigate these troubled times. The business, apprenticeship and scholarship would be means to allow young adults to pursue college or a trade school. It would serve as a healthy outlet and environment. A place to feel included and part of a team. It would serve as an important cause; means to give back to others and our community via togetherness...healthily.
