R.I.D.E. Recovery Foundation | Application Preview
R.I.D.E. Recovery Foundation is seeking government grants to establish a nonprofit focused on creating sober living facilities in Huntington, WV, an area noted for its high rates of opioid overdoses. The funding will be used to obtain tax-exempt status, lease a headquarters, develop a website, and cover startup costs.
The foundation aims to address the critical need for sober living environments that not only provide a place to stay but also hire recovery coaches and mentors to support individuals in their recovery journeys. This initiative is driven by a personal commitment to improve community health, acknowledging the lack of available resources and the dire consequences of inadequate housing for those seeking help.
In a competitive landscape where existing facilities offer similar services, R.I.D.E. plans to differentiate itself by fostering partnerships with local governments and businesses. This includes a focus on rehabilitation over incarceration, extended program lengths that allow for a stronger recovery foundation, and a system where residents can build savings as they transition to independent living. The foundation also emphasizes ongoing support and job placement to ensure stable employment and housing for those in recovery.

Business Plan
This nonprofit will provide funding to start and operate sober living facilities to the recovery community which will, in turn, hire individuals as recovery coaches and mentors. These facilities are in great demand in the Huntington, WV area. It will also provide education and resource services to anyone in need of help with a substance use disorder. This project isn't about me, it's about my community. Huntington is know as the Opioid Overdose capital of the world and I want to do my part in changing that to the Recovery Capital of the World! A facility like this saved my life, and we need more in the area! The houses stay full and sometimes there are no empty beds available for people seeking help and a lot of them die because of it. I am looking to help be a part of the solution to that problem. We need more facilities!

Self Identified Competition
They are pretty much all the same. The houses help people with a place to stay and stability while providing structure for a set amount of time. After you complete their programs, you are pretty much on your own with no housing assistance or real plan for a successful future. My sober living homes will have working relationships with state and local government agencies to promote 'Rehabilitation over Incarceration' and the program length will be substantial enough for individuals to build a solid recovery foundation, while at the same time being employed and paying a small amount of rent, but a percentage of that rent will be put into a savings account and after completing the program go towards the individuals down payment and first month's rent on their own place to live. Continuing aftercare will be offered as well. I also hope to have working relationships with local businesses and property owners to work together in making sure the individuals have meaningful jobs that provide stability in their finances and have safe, affordable housing options that support their recovery efforts.
