R & S Auto & Small Engine | Application Preview
R & S Auto & Small Engine is seeking government grants to purchase a tow truck, which will enhance their business operations and revenue. The tow truck will allow them to charge storage and towing fees, bringing in additional service work and helping cover operating costs and bills.
In the next five years, the business aims to expand by adding more services and improving customer accessibility. Plans include hiring more employees and increasing workspace to expedite vehicle repairs. Owning a tow truck will also enable them to generate more income, paving the way for the eventual purchase of a building rather than continuing to rent.
The applicant emphasizes their dedication and entrepreneurial spirit, recounting their journey from working various mechanic jobs to pursuing a formal education in Powersports and Power Equipment. After gaining experience, they opened their own shop alongside a friend, seeking additional funding to stabilize and enhance their services for the local farming community.
Their competition consists of two established automotive shops in town. One competitor has offered to sell their business, citing a desire to move away from public interaction. R & S Auto & Small Engine differentiates itself by providing a wider range of services, including semi work, small engine, marine repairs, and heavy equipment maintenance, positioning themselves as a versatile and capable repair shop in the area.

Business Plan
In the next 5 years we plan to expand the business by providing more services and availability to our customers. This could be done by hiring employees, having more work space, and owning and operating a tow truck. By having more employees we could have a faster turnaround time on repairing customers vehicles. With the services we could provide with a tow truck it would bring more money to the shop by providing it with more service work. This would help us get the money to then buy our own building instead of renting. You should invest in me because I am a hardworking man that has always followed his dreams. Since I was a kid I have always wanted to be my own boss. After high school I worked several mechanics jobs but I knew there was more out there for me so I decided to follow my heart and go to college. I attended college at Iowa lakes Community College and earned an Associate’s degree specializing in Powersports and Power Equipment. All while working a full time job for Lake Mills Motorsports as a Mechanic and Service Manger to help pay for my school. After College I moved back to my home town and started my career for AgriVision Equipment I worked there for 2 years before my friend and I decided it was time we opened our own shop. After several months of preparing and buying equipment to operate an automotive shop we finally did it! We are just looking for a little extra funding to get on our feet and provide superior service to our small farm community.

Self Identified Competition
We only have two competitors in my small town both of which are automotive shops that have been open and operating for several years . Hills Automotive has offered us to buy his business due to the fact that he has started doing dirt work. He told me “I am tired of dealing with the public ”. We are the only business in town that offers services such as semi work, Small engine and marine work we also work on heavy equipment and have experience in multiple areas of mechanics. We are very diverse and can fix just about anything.
