Marley Bean Logistics LLC | Application Preview
Marley Bean Logistics LLC is applying for government grants to support the expansion of their hotshot trucking business. The funding will be used to acquire additional trucks and trailers, provide training for new hires, cover unexpected business expenses, manage annual insurance costs, purchase equipment for business growth, and address payroll needs.
The business plan focuses on expanding operations and hiring employees affected by the end of COVID-19 unemployment benefits. Marley Bean Logistics emphasizes its commitment to creating jobs for individuals in need, having already employed two previously homeless individuals in Austin. However, the lack of necessary equipment and trucks has limited their ability to hire more workers, despite demand for their services. The owner has explored various loan options but has reached their borrowing capacity, making grant funding crucial for growth.
In terms of competition, Marley Bean Logistics faces independent contractors in the area. Competitors typically offer lower wages to their employees, capitalizing on the local job market where individuals may accept these positions out of necessity. Marley Bean Logistics, on the other hand, aims to offer competitive pay and benefits, but current financial constraints hinder their hiring abilities. The requested grant funding would not only enhance their fleet but also allow the company to employ more individuals seeking jobs.

Business Plan
I’m adding a hotshot trucking business for expansion purposes as well as trying to hire additional employees that are in need of employment due to the abrupt ending of unemployment benefits from COVID 19. Additional funds for payroll and employment taxes. Additional funds will help me to expand my small business. My goal is to provide jobs and work for people that are deeply in need for employment. So far I have been able to hire and assist two people who were homeless and either living in their cars or on the streets of Austin. Expenses however have rendered me unable to hire more employees because I do not have the equipment and trucks for them to drive even though the work is there. I have tried small business loans, bank loans and borrowing money however i am at my borrowing limit and my debt to income ratio is incredibly high. This grant will help me to not only expand with more trucks to fulfill more routes, but it will also enable my business to get another truck and provide more jobs for people in need.

Self Identified Competition
As of now my other competitors are independent contractors that are in the nearby area. Whirling Wheels LLC, Can’t Stop Won’t Stop Trucking, and Albi’s Trucking Inc. My competitors pay their employees well below the market value for truck drivers and appliance installers. Within central Texas area there are people in need of jobs and will simply take a job that is available regardless of pay and lack of benefits. My competition understands this and uses it to their advantage, where as my company pays at or above the average pay rate according to Indeed and the state of Texas pay scale for truck drivers. I am unable to hire them however due to lack of funds for expansion and increasing expenses.
