flora y luna 1041291205 | Government Grant Application

flora y luna | Application Preview

Flora y Luna is seeking government grants to support the growth of the business. The funding will be allocated towards securing a workspace, purchasing tools and materials, and covering initial costs to launch their product line. The pandemic has posed financial challenges, making it difficult to save enough for startup expenses.

Currently, Flora y Luna focuses on handmade hats, an area the owner can manage alone, but plans to expand production in the next five years. This includes hiring additional artisans and diversifying the product range to include accessories, jackets, bags, and boots. A key goal is to create a collaborative workspace in Las Vegas for artisans, offering craft classes and community events. The owner emphasizes the necessity of funding to realize this vision.

The applicant is a motivated young woman from a hardworking Mexican family, determined to succeed and support others along the way. They express a strong commitment to giving back to the community and creating meaningful jobs for their team.

Flora y Luna faces competition from established brands in the hat-making industry, which often produce high-priced products. However, the key differentiator is the unique, handcrafted elements that incorporate rich cultural embroidery and beading, setting their hats apart in both quality and design. The owner believes that with funding and support, the business can thrive and further contribute positively to the community.

  • Funding Usage

The funding will go towards getting space to work, tools and work table, pay for materials to create our product and kick us off. Since the pandemic it has been hard to save money enough to get started. This would really help get us off our feet, I know we will do amazing.

  • Business Plan

I plan to keep growing every step of the way. I am only making hats right now because it is what I can make with my hands and it gets paid for. In the next 5 years I plan to grow by getting some made instead of making them by myself. I can't keep up in this way but you need to invest when getting product made or hiring people. I plan on adding more artisans to my team as well as more accessories, jackets, bags and boots. I plan to donate percentages to special causes, it has always been my goal. I want to create a space in Las Vegas where I can have other artisans working together as a team and getting paid well. A place where I can teach crafting classes and can hold creative events for the community. I have a vision board and know exactly what I know. I know it will fall into place step by step. For all this I need more funding, anything will help. I am a young bright determined woman. I come from a strong hard working Mexican family and I plan on never giving up. I am determined to succeed one way or another. I will not fail myself or others along the way as long as I work hard and keep getting up daily to inspire and motivate myself. I always ask to be illuminated and guided in the right path. I have a vision and know I can make it happen, I just need funding and someone to believe in my end goal. I want to create creative jobs and give well deserved pay to my team and be able to have the means to give back. I have always helped and want to create ways to give back to the community. I only want to keep learning and growing and I will only do this by trial and error. If you invest in me, I promise to make it count.

  • Self Identified Competition

Fast fashion is always a competitor regardless of the brand. It has made it hard for sole artists and designers to come up. When it comes to what I do my competitors are Nick Fouqet, Gladys Tamez and Teressa Foglia. They sell 500-1400 dollar hats. I know Teressa spoke about how she had 500,000 worth of funding when she started. I do love all their work and respect them for what they do. Two of them have similar work to each other and the other is more simple. Famous people have worn their hats and blew them up. The difference in my work is visual. I create a lot of embroidery and beading details by hand. An art I took from my Mexican culture to make embroidery that tells a story or is something meaningful to the person wearing the hat. I make the hats myself and have created a new shape that no one has. Most of them don't make the hats themselves and I do. My material is of the best felt and some of those designers have lower quality material and still sell it for higher prices because they have reached a higher market and I am still not know. Quality over quantity. I want to open up my market as well but it is taking me longer. I don't know the designers personally but what I know about myself is that I have a lot of heart and passion for what I do.
