Fencepost Growth Investments Inc | Application Preview
Fencepost Growth Investments Inc. is seeking government grants to enhance their medical-based nail salon by hiring, training, and licensing employees, as well as upgrading their facilities. The aim is to create job opportunities with competitive pay and benefits while also catering to community needs for safe and specialized nail services, particularly for clients with health issues. The funding will cover the costs of the owner obtaining a manicurist instructor license, which is essential for launching a Nail Academy—the first of its kind in Brown County.
The proposal outlines the business's success since opening in July 2020, primarily driven by word-of-mouth referrals. Currently, the owner can only serve a limited number of clients, which restricts business growth. By expanding the team through training and licensing new employees, the salon will be able to increase client capacity and revenue. The owner envisions purchasing and renovating a property in a developing downtown area to house both the salon and the academy. This space will also be available for rent by individual cosmetologists and massage therapists, addressing a local demand for such services.
The application highlights the unique positioning of the salon, with technicians trained in health conditions and an internship experience with a local Podiatrist, providing a level of care that is not available at other nail salons in the area. By fostering community employment and providing specialized services, the business aims to secure support through grant funding to further serve both clients and aspiring professionals in Brown County.

Funding Usage
This funding will be used to hire, train and license employees to work in my medical based nail salon and to upgrade the current space to accommodate employees. This is an opportunity to be able to provide jobs and education for my community with good pay and benefits. I want to go back to school for my manicurist instructor license and then open a Nail Academy, of which we do not have in Brown County. The cost of this is $4,700. From there, I will be able to educate, train and license people to work in my medi based nail salon. Having employees will make my business revenue grow. With me only being the employee, I can only accommodate so many clients and I am turning down appointments and new potential clients. My current problem with growing my company is, I can't find employees that are licensed to work in a nail salon. But the solution to this is - I can offer the education and be able to license people therefore, I can train and hire them to work in my salon. I will be the only salon in the county that pays W2 and offers health benefits and other benefits. It is a great job opportunity for the people seeking a growing and in-demand career and for the community to be able to have access to safe, clean manicures and pedicures by Advanced- Medical Nail Technicians. This is especially important during COVID and for the clients with underlying health conditions that should not just go to a typical nail salon.

Business Plan
I started this company in July of 2020, right after business opened back up from COVID. I have been successful in finding and obtaining clientele, with no advertising, just word of mouth. I do not want to advertise currently because my books are always full and I am only one person. In order to grow, I need employees. I plan to open a branch of Sunflower Nail Studio which is Sunflower Nail Academy and be able to train and license people. For one full day of work, one employee can bring in $300 of revenue in services. The more employees, the more revenue. From there, I want to buy and renovate a building in our growing downtown area. This way I am not paying rent anymore and I am able to be a part of the up and coming downtown area. With the building I purchase, I plan to have Sunflower Nail Studio and the Academy operating in it. But for more revenue, I will create small spaces for individual cosmetologists or massage therapists to rent for $600 a space. These rooms will be easy to rent because there are no spaces like this in town. The only option is working in a booth in a busy crowded salon. I already have people on the list that want a room when I have them ready. I would also love to help these individuals who are renting spaces create their own LLC so they don't have to be self-employed and they can grow themself. Not only will I be able to provide my community with more jobs and a career with good pay and benefits but I will also be able to provide services to more clients. My nail salon is unique because the techs preforming services have gone through extensive training, and further education, even completing an internship with a Podiatrist to better serve clients with particular underlying health conditions. There is only one Podiatrist in my town and he can't easily accommodate all clients in my area, some of his clients come to my salon to have their feet taken care of.

Self Identified Competition
There is no competition in my town because there is no other nail salon that offers the types of services I offer. Sunflower Nail Studio is not just a nail salon. It is a medical based salon of which technicians train and study health conditions in order to give their client the safest and personalized services for each clients specific need. It is the cleanest and safest place for anyone to have a manicure or pedicure service.
