Go West | Application Preview
Go West is applying for government grants to fund the buildout of their restaurant, which will be located in a former Starbucks space. The funding will primarily cover the construction of a new kitchen.
Their business plan includes a targeted marketing strategy aimed at engaging with the local school community by offering catering services for school events and healthy lunch options for off-premise students. In the second year, they plan to elevate their catering program as a significant revenue source and have ambitions to open three additional locations within five years.
The founder, a hospitality industry veteran with 13 years of experience working for well-known brands such as Hillstone Group, Starbucks, and Sweetgreen, believes their background equips them to successfully launch this fast-casual restaurant.
Locally, they will compete with Whole Foods, Rotisserie Roast, and Sweetgreen, with Sweetgreen identified as the main competitor due to its strong brand recognition. Go West seeks to carve a niche in the market by combining the familiarity of Boston Market with the quality sourcing and branding of Sweetgreen, all while offering a California-inspired menu. Their offerings appeal to various customer segments, including young professionals and busy parents.
The restaurant is strategically located in Cos Cob, near specialty shops and high-traffic areas, with a delivery radius that includes nearby cities like Port Chester and Stamford. The combination of a unique concept, appealing menu, and optimal location forms a promising foundation for success.

Business Plan
After we open, I have a marketing plan that details how we will reach new customers. We will plug into the local school community, catering events for teachers and parents and providing a healthy option for lunch for students who eat off-premise. I will also be introducing a robust catering program in year two that is projected to be a very healthy revenue stream for the restaurant. I also have plans to open three more locations in the next five years. I am a hospitality industry veteran with 13 years in the business. In my career, I've worked for iconic brands like the Hillstone Group, Starbucks, and Sweetgreen, and am ready to apply my knowledge, skills, and hard-earned experience to start my own fast causal brand.

Self Identified Competition
Locally, our top 3 competitors are Whole Foods, Rotisserie Roast, and Sweetgreen. These three brands all serve similar food but in different formats. Sweetgreen is the biggest competitor, as they have the most brand recognition and biggest opportunity share at lunch. Rotisserie Roast is Boston Market's delivery-only brand. There is nothing like this concept in the area. I'm bringing together the familiarity of Boston Market with the thoughtful sourcing and branding of Sweetgreen, with a menu that is inspired by the beauty and bounty of California. My food is delicious, and works well for a number of different customers across different dayparts. Our salads are perfect for the local young professional at lunch, and busy working parents can order ahead and pick up a whole chicken, sides, and desserts for their family on the way home. Our interior design is clean and bright. Our location is ideally placed in Cos Cob, across from specialty shops and along the busy Putnam corridor. The delivery radius for the restaurant will encompass neighboring cities like Port Chester and Stamford, so we can build brand awareness in those areas without having to put too much marketing towards it. It's a formula for success.
