Valley Community Center | Application Preview
Valley Community Center is seeking government grants to cover the costs associated with replacing a rooftop HVAC unit and one or more furnaces crucial for heating and cooling the facility. Their business plan focuses on increasing attendance among senior citizens, low-income residents, and veterans by enhancing the services, events, and functions offered at the Center. They also aim to boost funding through grants and donations from various local and national sources.
Despite being profitable for over three decades, the Center experienced setbacks due to a mandated closure during the COVID-19 pandemic, which hindered operations and equipment maintenance. This, combined with the aging infrastructure, has intensified the need for additional funding to maintain and improve their offerings.
The Center has a strong track record, having provided essential services such as meals, health resources, and social activities for 33 years to the local community, including cities within Asotin County and neighboring regions. They emphasize that they are the only fully serviced senior center in Clarkston, WA, with limited competition from nearby centers.
Their longstanding dedication to the community and the absence of financial support from local, state, or federal sources strengthens their case for funding approval. The grant would enable them to enhance their facilities and continue serving the community effectively.

Business Plan
We plan to grow our business by recruiting more senior citizens, low-income area residents, and veterans to attend the various services, events and functions held at the Center, and to raise more grant and donation funds from local, regional banks, credit unions, businesses, national agencies and foundations and from the US Government. Although the Center has been profitable for over 33 years, the recent 2020 partial mandated closing of the Center by WA State for the Covid 19 virus has impacted the Center's ability to function, repair or replace equipment and provide services to our community. This coupled with the aging equipment and facilities in our building and parking lot has created a need for grant income to help augment our regular sources of income in order to keep the facility and services at the same or greater level than we have been providing since 1988. The Center has been providing senior meals, frozen meals, free food, pastries, bread products and produce, health related services, social activities, room rentals, fund raising and special events and parties for 33 years to our local community, including the cities of Asotin and Clarkston, WA (about 22,000 citizens and veterans), Asotin County, WA and the nearby city of Lewiston, ID and Nez Perce County, ID, and we need grant and donation income to support our efforts, the facility and the parking lot.

Self Identified Competition
The Center is the only fully serviced senior center in Clarkston, WA. Nearby competitors for services to our area seniors, low-income area residents and veterans comes from the 6th Street Senior Center, also in Clarkston, and The Lewiston Community Center in Lewiston, ID. The Valley Community center receives no local, state, or US government income or support. The Center has for over 33 years been supporting our local area community.
