Basil & Brie | Application Preview
Basil & Brie is applying for government grants to secure a permanent commercial kitchen space, which would eliminate the costs of hourly kitchen rentals. The funding will also allow the purchase of essential materials such as biodegradable serving products and marketing designs to promote the business and engage in community events.
The business plan centers on establishing a presence in downtown Houston to effectively market to both local companies and larger corporate clients. By offering stylish grazing tables and individually portioned grazing boxes, Basil & Brie aims to gain visibility and expand its customer base. The owner plans to target the wedding industry and conduct interactive classes for couples to create grazing boards, positioning the business as a fun alternative for date nights.
With over 15 years in the food and beverage sector, the owner is passionate about creating a business that emphasizes convenient, visually appealing, yet healthy food options to combat obesity. The vision includes future brands and partnerships with the local health community to promote a balanced diet.
While competing with established companies like The Chatty Mouse, Graze htx, and ElevEats, Basil & Brie differentiates itself by sourcing local ingredients and prioritizing eco-friendly practices. The owner actively supports local businesses and women through involvement in Texas Women in Business, enhancing the brand's community-focused approach.

Funding Usage
I would use the funds to secure a permanent commercial kitchen space, instead of paying by the hour to use another company's kitchen. Additional materials that I cannot afford yet would also be purchased, like biodegradable palm leaf boards, eco friendly boxes, bowls and ramekins. I would also use this money to create a few designs for marketing opportunities, and give aways to promote my business and participate in community events.

Business Plan
My primary goal is to get into a location within the downtown area of Houston so I am able to more efficiently market myself to local companies and big corporate companies for company events. By styling grazing tables or providing individually portioned grazing boxes for a lunch meeting or event, I would be able to grow exponentially just from the amount of people seeing and trying my food. I am also moving forward with marketing myself to the wedding industry within Houston and surrounding areas. A large portion of my ability to do these things is having a space where I can store all my non food items and of course a kitchen space where I can safely prepare everything. Between the city atmosphere and the wedding industry, I hope to be growing at a steady pace. Finally I hope to implement events for up to 20 pairs (40 people) to teach them how to build a grazing board and create regular "classes" that would be a fun alternative to the typical date night. I have been in the food and beverage industry fo 15 years and starting a business utilizing my love of food and people has always been my dream. Basil & Brie is the starting point, but I believe that convenience and beautiful food doesn't have to be unhealthy and perpetuate the problem of obesity in our country. I have hopes for other brands in the future and want very much to partner with the Houston health community to encourage well balanced diet and healthy choices to reduce obesity in our city.

Self Identified Competition
Companies like The Chatty Mouse, Graze htx, and ElevEats are my primary competitors for the locations I am working toward marketing myself. They are most established in that they may have been around a bit longer, however we all have very different styles. While we all focus on fresh foods and delicious combinations, I am focused on finding ways to source foods locally when possible and use products and materials that are eco friendly and minimal waste. Additionally I am a member of Texas Women in Business Bay Area Chapter and I use whatever tools available to me to help support other local business and women.
