Beale Street Books LLC | Application Preview
Beale Street Books LLC is applying for government grants to support various essential aspects of their business, including supplies, employee wages, rent, book inventory, utilities, and maintenance for their point-of-sale system.
The business aims to create a strong sense of community involvement, fostering relationships that contribute to its longevity. By providing job opportunities and volunteer options, Beale Street Books seeks to cultivate an atmosphere where supporters feel like part of a family rather than just customers. This connection is expected to encourage repeat visits and local spending.
Beale Street Books highlights that successful bookstores typically carve out unique niches, and they plan to do the same by emphasizing literature that focuses on the black experience and anti-racist themes, which currently see high demand due to national conversations around systemic racism. They will offer more than just books, including gifts and greeting cards, making the store a competitive alternative to giants like Amazon.
To engage customers, Beale Street Books intends to host events such as book signings and fairs, alongside an art gallery to enhance the shopping experience. Their competitive advantage lies in being a community meeting space that exclusively features predominantly black and anti-racist literature, positioning them uniquely in the market against local competitors.

Business Plan
We plan to involve the community as much as possible. With community involvement and community support, we will develop a trustworthy relationship with each other that will allow us to thrive in the years to come. We plan to provide jobs to the community as well as plenty of volunteer opportunities. This allows our supporters to feel apart of Beale Street Books, not as customers, but as family. A sense of ownership and belonging is what we hope our supporters feel, which will keep them returning and keep the dollars circulated. In the past, successful bookshops have all had their own distinct flavor. Whether it’s a shop that specializes in fiction, Winston Churchill, or is subscription based, there’s a specific niche attached to the business model that can’t be found elsewhere. We, too, will have our own distinct flavor that will bring draw in a specific, loyal, and reoccurring crowd of people from the community we plan to serve. Books featuring the black experience are flying off the shelves in high numbers. Anti-racist literature is in high demand. The high interest is a result of protests across the nation and conversations about systemic racism. We don’t plan to only sell literature. We will also stock a section of gifts and greeting cards, items which won’t have to compete with Amazon. Books won’t be the sole items critical to our profit margin. We plan to hold events (book signings, book fairs, etc.) to draw in customers. We also look forward to an art gallery that will provide customers with a complete experience.
