Wellspring of Greenbrier, Inc | Application Preview
Wellspring of Greenbrier, Inc. is applying for a government grant to secure $12,000 for administrative expenses, with funds intended to be distributed at $2,000 per month. The organization relies heavily on donations and grants, which leads to unpredictable cash flow, causing ongoing financial stress.
Having operated for over 15 years, Wellspring has focused on providing essential services to those in need rather than pursuing growth. Recent economic challenges and the pandemic have increased the demand for its services, which are crucial for many low-income individuals who are struggling.
The application emphasizes that Wellspring aims to support disadvantaged populations, believing that grantors are inclined to assist those in need. The organization has a strong track record for helping people leave with a sense of hope.
Wellspring views its relationships with other service agencies, such as the Department of Health & Human Resources, Catholic Charities, and Rhema Christian Center, as collaborative rather than competitive. Each agency offers different services, and by working together, they enhance support for individuals in need.
Wellspring's competitive edge lies in its volunteer-driven model, allowing direct engagement with disadvantaged individuals. In contrast to government agencies and other nonprofits that primarily handle bill payments, Wellspring offers a broader range of services, including meals, utility assistance, and access to laundry facilities and clothing. The organization's unique approach positions it as a vital resource for those facing financial hardships.

Funding Usage
Our need is for administrative purposes. Relying entirely on donations and grants causes difficult swings in cash flow due to the uncertainly of receipt. Allocating $12,000., meted out at $2,000. p/mo., will alleviate the almost constant worry associated with flow of funds.

Business Plan
We have been in business for 15+ years and have grown exponentially to our present position. Our goal is not geared toward growth, rather toward helping people in need; however, as needs increase, so also the requirement to cover costs increases. The present circumstances in which we find our country, i.e. economy, pandemic, etc. means that many more low-income people are being left behind which means our services become much more vital. I firmly believe that a vast majority of grantors and investors desire to help people who are disadvantaged, and I further believe that there is a spirit within most of us that brings out the good when facing dire circumstances. Wellspring is not perfect but it attempts to assist when called upon and has an excellent track record. In all cases, our desire is for people to leave with more hope that when they arrived.

Self Identified Competition
I'm not sure that we compete as much as we collaborate. All service agencies differ in what they offer and by working together, more individuals in need can be assisted. The three agencies we work most closely with are: Dept of Health & Human Resources; Catholic Charities; and Rhema Christian Center. While DHHR is a govt. agency that provides mandated services basically to low-income people, Wellspring operates primarily as a volunteer organization with direct contact with disadvantaged people. Wellspring provides meals, pays utility bills, offers free use of clothes washers & dryers, gives out free clothing and offers a plethora of other services styled to the needs of the poor. Catholic Charities and Rhema Christian Center primarily offer direct payment of bills.
