HSHELBY LLC DBA THE PACKER INN 87-2363392 | Government Grant Application

HSHELBY LLC DBA THE PACKER INN | Application Preview

HSHELBY LLC, operating as The Packer Inn, is seeking government grants to stabilize its finances and enhance operations. The funds will be used to consolidate debts, acquire additional inventory, and upgrade essential equipment. The business also plans to open a second location and expand outdoor seating at its current site. Additionally, they aim to introduce entertainment options and delivery services to attract a broader customer base.

The Packer Inn has been a respected establishment in Silver Lake for over 40 years. The current owner, who has dedicated seven years to the business, emphasizes a strong personal commitment to its success, working tirelessly in various roles. The bar is well-regarded locally and has a strong customer base, which the owner is passionate about preserving and growing.

While competition is stiff, with notable rivals like Copper Bottom Bar & Grill, Uncle George's Bar & Grill, and Benders Bar & Grill, The Packer Inn stands out due to its prime location on a busy thoroughfare and its affiliation as an official Green Bay Packers bar. This not only attracts football fans but also locals who appreciate the longstanding history and community focus of the establishment.

The Packer Inn is committed to serving the community and engaging in charitable efforts, further solidifying its reputation as more than just a bar. With these grant funds, the business aims to enhance its offerings and solidify its place as a cherished local venue.

  • Funding Usage

The funding I am requesting would be to consolidate business expenses and get the business out of the red. We need to purchase additional inventory and update equipment in order to continue operations.

  • Business Plan

We are looking at opening a second location and also adding additional outdoor seating/service at the current venue. We would like to add entertainment to draw in new customers and market to wider audiences by adding delivery options. This bar has been in business for over 40 years and I recently acquired it after working for this business for seven years. I put my heart and soul in to this restaurant/bar and it is well-known in the area. I put over 80 hours a week in to the business, between working in the kitchen, behind the bar, providing support to the bar & waitstaff and doing any behind the scenes bookwork/errands. Our bar is the busiest in Silver Lake and with the purchase of inventory and much needed equipment, this business will be able to thrive. As a woman, a lot of people would love to see me fail but I am motivated to make this business more successful than it has been in previous years.

  • Self Identified Competition

There are a lot of amazing restaurant/bars in Silver Lake so competition is tight. Our top three competitors would be as follows: 1) Copper Bottom Bar & Grill: They have a completely different menu and are known as a more upscale restaurant as they are on the lake. During the summer they are swamped but winter months they have trouble keeping business as the lake crowd is gone. 2) Uncle George's Bar & Grill: They offer a smaller menu but similar items as The Packer Inn. They do good business and were recently bought by a young brother/sister team that are trying to get a new customer base. They have great food and a good following, but the downfall is the location. It is located off the main drag and they don't get drive by traffic as our location does. 3) Benders Bar & Grill: This is the biggest competition in the area. Menu is similar, however, they don't do the lunch/dinner business we do. They are known more as a bar than a restaurant and have a late night crowd as opposed to our lunch/dinner crowd. They don't have a designated cook at all times, leaving the bartender to handle the bar and cooking. The main difference with The Packer Inn is location. We are located on a 3 way main strip in Silver Lake. In order to get anywhere in SIlver Lake, you have to drive past our location. The three main roads all pass the bar, giving The Packer Inn the advantage with drive by customers. Due to our Green Bay Packers theme and registration as an official Green Bay Packers bar, we receive a lot of guests coming in to check out the decor and take pictures at our "hot spot." The Packer Inn has been known in Silver Lake as the go-to bar for over 40 years. Prior to that it was known as The Chicago Tavern and many of the same customers and their families have come to our establishment for years. We are best known for our amazing fish fry and strive to provide amazing service to our customers, leading to repeat business. Our bar staff has been working for The Packer Inn ranging from 18-23 years, so they definitely have their own followings. We do monthly charity drives to raise money for organizations in our community and provide meals to those who are struggling. We don't see this as just a business, we see ourselves as part of a wonderful community.
