Brazen Bagels Brazen Bagels | Government Grant Application

Brazen Bagels | Application Preview

Brazen Bagels is seeking government grants to support their expansion into a larger space within a historic car dealership. The funding will be used for purchasing larger equipment and upgrading their ventilation system to meet code requirements.

Their business plan aims to position Brazen Bagels as a go-to destination for authentic New York-style bagels throughout Michigan over the next five years. This plan includes launching a mobile food truck to increase their outreach, expanding their team for more catering opportunities, selling branded merchandise, and enhancing their online presence.

In their application, the couple emphasizes the diversity of the Dearborn community and the fierce competition they face from larger chains and local competitors. They believe their unique quality and homemade approach set them apart in a market where good bagels are scarce. Their journey began with a passion for bagels from their home kitchen and has grown into a community-focused business. The couple has built strong connections and received community support, which they attribute to their love for food and commitment to quality.

What distinguishes Brazen Bagels is their meticulous hand-rolled, small-batch process that results in superior bagel quality. They are dedicated to perfecting their craft, connecting with customers, and enriching the community. Moving to the dealership presents a significant opportunity to grow their business and the overall customer experience at Village Ford.

  • Business Plan

In the next five years, we plan on Brazen Bagels becoming a destination for people all around Michigan who are looking for true New York Style bagels. Plans to expand include a food truck that can take us mobile and reach more people around Michigan, and growing our team so that we can take on more catering and events in addition to running our store. We will be adding merch, branded coffee, and building our website to become more widely accessible. Dearborn is a very diverse community with a plethora of quality food options. We understand that there is fierce competition in our area, however we know that what we have to offer is special. Bagels are universally loved, and in Michigan it is difficult to find a good bagel place as they are few and far between. We started making bagels in our home kitchen for the simple fact that we craved a good bagel, and didn't have anywhere nearby where we could find one. Once we realized this, we knew we had something. Any extra money we had went toward bagel supplies. We obtained a cottage food license to begin selling our product out of our home, which then had us getting out into the community to tell people about our bagels. This is what lead to our first opportunity selling our bagels to the neighborhood, inside of another local restaurant. With student loans and a mortgage, it wasn't easy to come up with the money needed for our equipment, but we believed in it so much that we found a way to make it happen. The community has rewarded us in ways we never thought possible. We love connecting with our neighbors and giving them quality food to take and share with their families and coworkers. We find our purpose through food and it's how we relate to others. It's the product that sells, but it's the passion for people and food that is most sustainable. In practicing this, we've made a lot of great connections. One of those connections happens to be with Village Ford. We are so grateful that they want us to move into their building and serve our bagels to their employees and customers daily. We are sure that this opportunity will transform our lives and improve their dealership experience. The freedom we feel from making a living doing what we love to do is unlike anything else and we look forward to many more years of serving fresh, hand-rolled bagels to our neighbors and beyond.

  • Self Identified Competition

Einstein's and Panera Bread- Chain restaurant, machine-made bagels. Steamed, not boiled. 313 Bagels is a local cottage food baker who serves his Detroit style bagels at local farmer's markets. What makes us different is the quality of the bagels and the passion we have for connecting with people through food. We are a young newlywed couple with an incredible product and a big dream. We have done everything wrong when it comes to making a bagel, and practice makes perfect. We bake in small batches and hand roll every single bagel. The bagels proof for so many hours and then are boiled before going into the oven. This process keeps the integrity of the gluten structure and creates the perfect outer crust and fluffy, chewy inside. Each step has been dialed in to produce the most perfect, consistent bagels every time. With small batches, we are creating something worth getting out of bed early for.
