Delta Industrial Institute Museum & Library, Inc. | Application Preview
The Delta Industrial Institute Museum & Library, Inc. is seeking government funding to renovate and expand its facilities, hire new staff, and launch a marketing campaign. The museum aims to engage K-12 students through regular field trips to ignite a lifelong interest in history and museums. Additionally, it plans to attract college students, particularly social studies majors, as volunteers, providing them with valuable resources for their academic work while benefiting from their support.
The museum's mission is deeply rooted in promoting racial equality by confronting the harsh realities of history. It seeks to shed light on the brutal slave trade, lynchings, and the displacement of Native Americans. The belief is that understanding the past is crucial for building a more equitable future.
While competition exists, such as the Fannie Lou Hamer Memorial Gardens and the Emmett Till Historic Intrepid Center, Delta Industrial Institute holds a distinct competitive edge. It emphasizes the historical significance of a segregated high school established for Black children in 1904 and documents the ongoing impact of discrimination. The museum serves as a powerful reminder of the region's complex history, aiming to foster awareness and dialogue around these critical issues.

Business Plan
We want to schedule regular field trips from schools for every grade level K-12. this is to awaken a passion for history and museums that will last throughout adulthood. We will strive to make our exhibits engaging and interactive that children will want to come back to our museum but will want to visit museums as well. Higher Education: We would like to attract college students especially those with majors in social studies. We are a wonderful resource for term papers, and they could be a great resource for us as volunteers. The Delta Industrial Institute Museum & Library, Inc. is dedicated to healing and moving our County, State, and Nation forward toward racial equality by unapologetically portraying the brutal slave trade, atrocities, and lynching that took place on southern plantations and the forced relocation of hundreds of thousands of Native Americans so white settlers could farm their land. We believe that if we understand and come to terms with where we have been, we can move forward together to build a better tomorrow.

Self Identified Competition
There are few other centers in the Delta that highlight the brutality of slavery and fight for civil rights in the area. Fannie Lou Hamer Memorial Gardens is the resting place of a civil rights activist and icon who passionately fought for voter's rights. Emmett Till Historic Intrepid Center (ETHIC) of Glendora, MS is a converted old cotton gin that provides a thought-provoking and educational experience of the town of Glendora. Till, a 14 year old boy visiting from Chicago in 1955, was accused of whistling at a white woman. A few days later his tortured and mutilated body was found in the Tallahatchie River. Mae Bertha Carter , a civil rights activist registered her children into Drew, MS all white school in the 1960's. Delta Industrial Institute Museum & Library highlights the segregated High School founded in 1904 for black sharecroppers children from surrounding plantations. the museum recounts its history showing factual, recorded written, oral and written history. Two books that are now catalogued in the State of Mississippi Historical Archives. Our museum brings awareness to the segregation of schools, discrimination - past and present, and present. It also shines a light on the atrocities that took place including Mississippi lynchings, massacres and unsolved murders where Black human Bar-B-Ques were a form of entertainment.
