Lizard run ranch 112111 | Government Grant Application

Lizard run ranch | Application Preview

Lizard Run Ranch is seeking government grants to help cover increased operational costs and invest in an irrigation system to enhance hay growth and prevent erosion. The goal is to improve the quality and quantity of pasture and hay, ultimately providing better feed for cattle. By utilizing their legally owned water sources, the ranch plans to implement this irrigation and an advanced erosion control system, which will support herd expansion and improve the quality of beef products offered in the market.

The ranch has a long-standing history, being family-owned since 1849, and has remained resilient through various challenges such as droughts and natural disasters. Competition in their region, Cherokee County, is fragmented, with no single rancher holding a significant advantage.

Lizard Run Ranch emphasizes its competitive edge through a strong work ethic and commitment to quality. They take pride in the management of their livestock and breeding programs, focusing on superior genetics. Their infrastructure is built on principles of durability and cost-effectiveness, reflecting their dedication to maintaining the ranch's legacy and values as a family-run business.

  • Business Plan

We will use the increased and improved quality of pasture, grazing, and hay production fields to provide higher quality and amount of feed to our cattle. The addition of an irrigation system, run off of our legally owned water sources, and the implementation of an advanced erosion eradication system will allow us to produce more producing grazing and growing pasture land. This will in turn allow us to grow the herd and provide higher quality beef and beef products to the open market. This ranch has been in my family since 1849. During this time, we have never sold, or in any way reduced in size or operation, our current ventures. We have survived droughts, tornadoes, Ferrell hog infestations, insect and insect related infections in addition to the general stressors associated with agribusiness.

  • Self Identified Competition

Our top three competitors include local farms and ranches in Cherokee County. The state of agribusiness in east Texas can be described as fragmented, meaning no one rancher has a meaningful or significant advantage greater than 25%. We are truly salt of the earth, honest and hardworking individuals. If you see our ranch, regardless of how much money currently is in our ranch account, you will conclude that pride, sweat, and integrity is the only way for a ranch like this to survive. We take care in everything we do. Our livestock are maintained with a level of care and management that is apparent. We spend a lot of time breeding our livestock with superior genetics, which we believe the average consumer will notice at the dinner table. Our fences are built to last and constructed correctly, frugally. This thinking is embedded in our culture and our culture reflects the ranch, Lizard Run Ranch, est. 1849 by the Blankinship family.
