Slice and Dice N/A | Government Grant Application

Slice and Dice | Application Preview

Slice and Dice is applying for government grants to establish a unique pizza restaurant and arcade in a rural community that currently lacks entertainment options. The requested funding will be used to secure a building and purchase essential equipment, including tables, chairs, gaming consoles, TVs, arcade games, kitchen appliances, and cover the first few months of rent.

The business plan outlines a strategy for recovering the initial investment within the first year, after which it aims to grow both the restaurant and arcade components. The arcade will host weekly gaming sessions and community events, such as leagues and competitions, aimed at engaging local teens and families. The restaurant will expand its menu post-launch and partner with community initiatives to support lower-income families.

The proposal highlights the community’s need for a local entertainment hub, noting that young adults, teens, and families currently lack options for leisure activities. The nearest pizza and arcade venues are over 30 minutes away, indicating a strong market opportunity. The location for the restaurant and arcade is well-positioned in the town center, and the business has support from the property owner and realtor.

With no direct competition in the area, Slice and Dice aims to fill a significant gap by offering a combined dining and entertainment experience. This venture is expected to provide a safe space for families and young people, ultimately benefiting the community by promoting engagement and reducing the likelihood of youth-related issues.

Overall, the grant will enable Slice and Dice to bring much-needed entertainment and dining options to the local area, fostering community connection and support.

  • Funding Usage

Our business is a pizza restaurant and arcade. If awarded a grant we would invest that into obtaining the building and the basics needed to get the business off the ground. This would include tables, chairs, gaming consoles, tvs, arcade games, board games, card games, kitchen equipment, food, and the first few months of rent for the building.

  • Business Plan

In our business planning we established that we can receive back the funding that we put into the business (during startup) after 1 year of operating. After that first year of business operation we will expand both sides of the business (the restaurant as well as the arcade) For the arcade side of the company we will implement weekly gaming sessions. These gaming sessions would also generate more revenue, but would also pull in more teens in the community and help keep their minds busy. We will also start implementing more and more activities for all of the community to participate in, such as: gaming leagues, competitions / contests, adult days, discount days, and several other events. For the restaurant side of the business after the first year we will start implementing more menu items. Once the restaurant side of the business is well established we will partner with the community to offer programs for the lower income families, as well as partnering with other businesses and events in the area to provide food. Elkfest is a yearly festival that our town holds, and is a great example of a yearly event we plan on attending as a business. We are located in a fairly rural area and the town does not have anywhere for young adults, teens or children to go for entertainment after school. This also means there are not any current options for adults to go and blow off steam after work. The community simply does not offer any options for entertainment which means there are gaps allowing young adults and teens to get into trouble and not even to mention lack of entertainment is forcing our local adult community to seek entertainment elsewhere. Working with several of the community members and hearing from the town, we all realized that we needed something to fill those gaps. The business concept is half pizza restaurant, half arcade because our town is also lacking in pizza and we all have to drive 20 minutes to the next town over to find pizza. The local community also expressed the need to have more variety and dining as there are only three other dine-in restaurants here in town. The building available for lease is in a great location in the middle of town and I have already met with the realtor for this building. The owner and realtor both support this concept. All we need is funding to get off the ground which will include tables, chairs, arcade games, walk-in freezer, consoles, tvs, etc. After hearing from the people in the town we know this is what our town needs and at this point it's just a matter of funding. We truly believe this will be something that the community can really benefit from since it will help keep the minds busy of the younger generation.

  • Self Identified Competition

As of right now in Elkins, we do not have any competition at all. The only thing that we could even call competition is someone else interested in leasing the building that we are currently trying to obtain. The closest pizza restaurant is 30 minutes away in a different city, and the closest arcade is also 30 minutes away in a different city. What makes us different from any competitors in the area is that we don't resemble any of the competitors. As an example, our company will provide full service dining as well as a full arcade. The only competitor we have for the restaurant side of the business is a Domino's 30 minutes away in a different town. The only competitor we have for the arcade side of the business is an arcade 30 minutes away in a different town. Neither of these businesses provide full service dining, and neither of these businesses are located in our city. Our community does not offer any source of entertainment for adults, teens or children, and that gap in our community pushes young adults, teens and children to seek entertainment elsewhere allowing them to get into trouble. What we are offering as a full arcade and restaurant gives the community a place to go as a family, teens to go and hang out with other teens in a safe environment, and provides a place for general entertainment, which our town, and the neighboring town, does not currently offer.
