Jasper Herr Ironworks LLC | Application Preview
Jasper Herr Ironworks LLC is seeking government grants to purchase the property where the shop is located. This investment would enable the business to expand its infrastructure, hire new employees, and enhance its operations.
The business plan focuses on several key initiatives: expanding the shop, increasing staff, and delivering high-quality classes to families. The owner is passionate about inspiring younger generations to engage in hands-on work and entrepreneurship. Jasper Herr Ironworks also aims to advocate for handmade products and educate the community on their significance. Ultimately, the owner envisions opening a store dedicated to locally sourced handmade and homestead goods.
Approval of funding is justified by the owner’s commitment and achievements over the past two years in building the business from scratch. At just 21 years old, the owner has reinvested income into equipment to enhance efficiency. Obtaining this grant would enable the purchase of the property, which is vital amidst rising housing prices, while allowing for greater investment into the business's growth. The business brings value to the community through experiential learning and the availability of unique, locally crafted items. As a blacksmith, the owner receives numerous requests for custom parts that are not readily available elsewhere, highlighting the community's need.
In terms of competition, the business primarily contends with large retail stores that sell mass-produced items marketed as handmade, which undermines the value of artisanal work. However, Jasper Herr Ironworks stands out with its unique offerings and variety of services, including classes, ornamental and functional ironwork, as well as custom knives and axes. The grant would enhance the ability to continue providing diverse services to the community.

Business Plan
I want to expand my shop, hire new employees and continue to provide high quality classes to local and visiting families. I want to continue to inspire young people to work with their hands, and start their own businesses. I will continue to advocate for handmade goods and educate my community on its importance. I would like to one day open a store that offers handmade and homestead goods that are locally sourced . I have started my business from bare bones and invested all my income in new equipment which has allowed me to be efficient and generate income. I’m 21 years old and have been self employed for two years running my own company. With enough assistance it will allow me to buy back my property offsetting rising housing prices. I will be able to invest more in my business and grow exponentially . I will bringing value to my community through Experiential learning and local handmade goods. Being a local blacksmith I get a lot of calls about custom parts people need that they can’t find anywhere else. I want to continue to provide these services to my community to help them improve there homes or businesses.

Self Identified Competition
Big box stores that sell max produced products marketed as handmade. These companies are hard to compete with because they do things on a production level not on a handmade artisan level. This undercuts small businesses and the value of handmade work. I don’t have many local competitors because my work is very unique and there is a small a small of blacksmiths in the area. Most smiths focus on one niche are where I strive to offer a wide range of services. Including classes, ornamental Ironwork/ functional ironwork, knives, axes, and home goods. This grant would allow me to continue to offer a wide range of services to the community.
