Courageous Readers 87-1328301 | Government Grant Application

Courageous Readers | Application Preview

Courageous Readers is seeking government grants to enhance literacy support for school-aged children struggling with reading fluency, comprehension, and phonics. The funding will be used to acquire a physical space for onsite services, purchase diverse leveled reading books and phonic materials, hire two additional support staff, and provide technological tools like Chromebooks or tablets for student use. Other expenses include advertising, bookkeeping software, insurance, program licenses, office supplies, and furniture.

The business plan focuses on individualized reading interventions backed by data analysis, ensuring student progress and engaging parents for support. Testimonials will be utilized for marketing through social media and radio, and services will be offered year-round, including online options across the U.S. The goal is to use modern educational tools and hire qualified professionals to address literacy gaps in children from various backgrounds.

Funding approval is framed as an investment in the future, emphasizing the importance of empowering children to become successful adults in diverse fields. The need for such services has heightened due to the setbacks from COVID-19, and the founder notes a critical gap in existing educational support, providing a compelling reason for the need for their services.

In terms of competition, Courageous Readers currently faces none due to the overwhelming need for additional literacy support. The unique aspect of the business lies in its combination of onsite and online services, utilizing effective, research-based programs led by an experienced and licensed Reading Specialist, distinguishing it from traditional educational settings.

They will be investing in those that matter most which are our children and the return is the confidence and potential birthed for the future scientist, president, CEO of a Fortune 500 company, engineer, doctor, investor, banker, governor, custodian, teacher or parent. I am investing the time and energy because the students I will service are worth it!

  • Self Identified Competition

I currently don’t have any competition because of the need being so great! Covid-19 has caused much of this reading gap through distant/remote learning efforts not being 100% efficient or effective. The need is great, and I’m hearing it from teachers all around the state. A classroom teacher has 18-25 students and cannot possibly meet all the reading needs that are identified within the first 4-6 weeks of school. My business is that bridge offered to parents for more needed support. My business will be different because I will be able to offer both online and onsite literacy services. The programs I use are research-based programs and have scholarly articles written about them along with proven data that they work. I am also a licensed Reading Specialist and licensed educator with years of experience.
