Step in Time | Application Preview
Step in Time is applying for government grants to enhance its business operations. The funds will be used to increase inventory and pay off credit card debt incurred from prior inventory purchases.
The business plan outlines a five-year vision focused on providing essential dance and cheer supplies to surrounding counties while expanding the product range to meet local demand. There is also a goal to open a second location in Bakersfield, California, to better serve Kern County.
The owner brings 20 years of experience as a hairstylist and a decade of salon ownership, showcasing a strong entrepreneurial background. In just seven weeks of operation, Step in Time has generated $23,000 in sales, established partnerships with local studios and high schools, and has successfully sold out popular items like leotards and jazz shoes.
While online shopping poses competition, Step in Time's advantage lies in personalized service, enabling customers to try on shoes for the best fit. The store's commitment to providing a tailored shopping experience sets it apart from online retailers, making it a valuable resource for dancers in the community.

Business Plan
My plan in the next 5 years is to continue to serve all surrounding counties with all essentials, while expanding to different types of dance and cheer shoes also needed in our area. If possible I would like to open a much needed second location in Bakersfield, Ca to better access Kern county. I have been a Hairstylist for 20 years and owned my own salon for the past 10 years. I build that business from the ground up and I’m determined to do the same with Step in Time. In the short 7 weeks we have been open I’ve managed to do $23,000 in sales, securing relationships with surrounding studios in Tulare, Kings and Kern Counties, made a contract with 2 local High Schools to provide the necessary shoes used for their Choir Students, and have sold out 3 times over all leotards and jazz shoes used at local studios.

Self Identified Competition
My only real competitor is online shopping. What puts my business a head above them is that each dance shoe is uniquely sizes and needs to be tried on to ensure a perfect fit. My business provides that hands on service fitting the correct shoe to the dancer. What makes our store unique is the personal experience my customers receive by shopping with us. We provide several options in each category of shoes to ensure a proper fit to the dancer.
