Trails End Meat Company 811262380 | Government Grant Application

Trails End Meat Company | Application Preview

Trails End Meat Company is seeking government grants to fund the purchase of land and necessary supplies to establish a meat processing business in Arkansas. The funding will enable the company to become USDA inspected and provide retail services for meat and by-products, including pet treats from processed animal by-products.

The business plan focuses on addressing a significant shortage of custom and USDA inspected slaughterhouses in the region. With many local ranchers and small farms lacking options for animal processing, Trails End aims to fill this gap, as existing facilities have long wait times for processing. The founders have experience in meat processing and are actively learning necessary skills through volunteering.

Competition includes several nearby processing options, such as 5R Processing, Cypress Valley Meats, and Cabot Meat Market, each with challenges like long wait times or limited services. Trails End's competitive advantage lies in its ideal central location on Hwy 5 and its ability to quickly open for retail sales, providing customized processing options and catering to the growing demand for transparency in food sourcing.

  • Business Plan

Over the next 5 years we will also open to provide retail of meat and by-products by becoming USDA inspected. This will open the door to being able to work with ranchers, grocery stores, restaurants, and sell to the general public. It will also allow us to market and sell pet treats. These pet treats can be made using the by-products of processed animals. There is a shortage of both custom and USDA inspected slaughter houses in Arkansas. Even fewer are USDA inspected. There are several custom shops right now that only process wild game. Ranchers and small farms have no where to take their animals to be processed. Currently, there are shops that are scheduling to intake animals into end of next year. We would be able to fill that niche for our area. My husband and I have processed our own meat for many years. Currently I am volunteering at a custom slaughterhouse in order to learn how to cut the meat for the public.

5R Processing - They are 1.5 hours away from our location. Their meats and cuts are really good and have a large customer base. Their next available time to bring in a cow is September 2021. Cyrpess Valley Meats - They own 3 different facilities. The one closest to our location only processes wild game. Their next shop is about 1 hour away and has a large customer base. Their other location is about 1.5 hours away and is booking out until the end of next year. Cabot Meat Market - This facility is only about 45 minutes from us and they are only booking out by about a month. However, their reputation is not great and in many reviews and personal stories we've been, they are only used by many as a last resort. Our facility will be located in central area on Hwy 5 in the middle of a multitude of ranches. We will also be providing retail very soon after opening. That allows us to have a bigger income base because we will be able to slaughter 1/4, 1/2, or whole on demand or simply the cut the customer wants. Our facility will also be able to cater to pets' needs as well. With more and more people wanting to know where their food is coming from, they are searching out locations like ours will be.
