Sand Springs General Store and Gas 884068600 | Government Grant Application

Sand Springs General Store and Gas | Application Preview

The Sand Springs General Store and Gas is seeking government grants to enhance its offerings by installing a diesel pump and transitioning to a grocery store. The aim is to cater to the local ranching community by providing essential groceries and diesel fuel directly in their area, reducing the need for them to travel long distances for these services. This revitalization is deemed crucial for maintaining the store's historical significance and increasing its utility to residents.

The business faces competition primarily from Ryan's Grocery in Jordan, located 30 miles away, as well as other grocery stores in Winnett, Miles City, and Billings, which are much farther at 90 miles to 2.5 hours away. The key competitive advantage of Sand Springs General Store is its location, allowing it to serve the local population without high markups, unlike its competitors. By focusing on affordability and convenience, the store anticipates increasing local traffic and meeting community needs more effectively.

  • Funding Usage

I would like to use this funding to install a diesel pump and vastly increase our inventory to make it into a grocery store.

  • Business Plan

I plan to make this a thriving grocery store that will benefit the many locals living on the surrounding ranches. I want to offer diesel at our gas station, as we are on a major highway and this would greatly increase our marketability. This store is a historic part of this community. In order to become more useful to the locals, we need to meet the needs that are here by providing the services they are currently traveling vast distances to access. Offering diesel and carrying groceries that are used daily, and not just convenience food for tourists and hunters, would greatly increase our local traffic and our usefulness.

  • Self Identified Competition

Ryan's Grocery in Jordan, 30 miles away is our top competitor. They are the only other grocery store within about 90 miles. The grocery store in Winnett (90 miles) is similar to Ryan's in price and content. Miles City Walmart, 2 hours away, and Billings Walmart, 2.5 hours away, are the next big competitors. These are also the locations of the nearest diesel pumps. Our store is different from our competitors because we are right here in their neighborhood, and don't believe in price gouging. We will offer the groceries they need at the lowest price possible, which will draw many of the hard-strapped local ranchers. We will also offer diesel, which isn't available for very long distances.
