Hall Away Junk | Application Preview
Hall Away Junk is seeking a $50,000 government grant to establish a professional junk removal service in Columbus, Ohio. The funds will be used to create a professional website and advertising, purchase a new truck for operations, and hire employees to help with the service.
The five-year business plan involves providing top-notch junk removal while ensuring that employees receive proper training in service excellence and safety. As demand increases, the business intends to expand its fleet with additional trucks, each staffed by a team of two for efficient job completion. A central warehouse will be set up for operations, allowing employees to convene, share ideas, and receive ongoing safety training. The business also aims to engage with the community by participating in cleanup efforts following local festivals.
The need for this service is underscored by statistics indicating that 2.12 billion tons of trash are deposited in landfills each year, a figure that continues to rise. This establishes junk removal as a recession-proof and essential service, with a growing gap in the workforce willing to undertake such tasks.
In terms of competition, Hall Away Junk faces established franchises like 1-800-Got-Junk, College Hunks Hauling Junk, and Junk Kings, all of which have significant profit margins. However, Hall Away Junk’s competitive advantage lies in its local roots and commitment to fair pricing. In an effort to foster community ties, a portion of the profits will be donated to local organizations, such as the Franklin County Animal Shelter. The company prioritizes creating positive impacts both for its employees and the broader community.

Business Plan
Over the next five years I plan on providing a professional junk removal business to the Columbus Ohio area by making sure my employees are properly trained for not only great service but on safety as well. I will be adding on new trucks to my fleet as the work continues to grow each truck with two employees to bid and carry out each job. I’m looking to get a warehouse/shop to hold all the equipment and have a central spot where my employees go to start and end each day and we can discuss safe practices on the job and share ideas that keep the company moving forward. I want to also find ways to use this business to help the community such as getting involved after festivals to help with clean up. Trash and Junk are never going away. As of 2022 2.12 billion tons of trash is brought to the landfills annually. This number grows every year. Not only is that number growing but there’s a shortage of workers willing to go out and get it removed. This is a recession proof business and one that is essential to society. A company that will do the work professionally will be a profitable one.

Self Identified Competition
My top three competitors are 1 800 Got Junk, College Hunks Hauling Junk and Junk Kings. All franchise companies with great profits. I’m a local business not a franchise. More and more customers are seeking out local good hardworking people. My competition over charges. I keep my pricing competitive but fair and my customers recognize that. I am going to be taking a percentage of my profits from jobs and donating it to local services such as the Franklin county animal shelter. I want my company to be all about community and helping others as much as possible while creating better lives for my employees.
