Good-N-Home Youth & Family Services 82-2422197 | Government Grant Application

Good-N-Home Youth & Family Services | Application Preview

Good-N-Home Youth & Family Services is applying for government grants to secure and renovate apartments, making them livable for individuals in need. The organization adopts a "housing first" model, prioritizing the renovation of apartments as its initial service offering. The founder, currently a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor, is nearing completion of a master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, aiming to include counseling services and case management in the next few years.

The reasoning for funding approval is strong, backed by the founder's educational background, which includes an Associate's in Human Services and a Bachelor's in Applied Behavioral Science. With over 17 years of experience in human and social services, the founder has worked with various populations, including LGBTQ+ individuals, those in foster care and adoption, and people coping with HIV/AIDS, addiction, and mental health challenges. The founder is also involved in community leadership, holding positions such as co-chair of the church leadership team and a former member of the Mayor's Fair Housing Commission.

In terms of competition, Good-N-Home faces significant players like CommQuest, which specializes in drug and alcohol services, Coleman for mental health, and Stark Metropolitan Housing Authority for housing. However, the founder believes that these organizations have expanded to a point where services may feel less personal due to increased wait times and client loads.

Good-N-Home's competitive edge lies in its commitment to remaining a smaller, more personal organization. The goal is to maintain a workforce of no more than 15 people, fostering meaningful interactions and relationships between clients and staff. This approach aims to create a supportive community atmosphere, setting Good-N-Home apart from larger, impersonal agencies.

  • Business Plan

I believe in the housing first model. My plan is to renovate apartments to make available for living. This will be the first service to be available. I'm currently a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor, in 1.5 years my masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling will be completed and I will be adding counseling services and case management within the next 2-3 years. I have an AS in Human Services and a BA in Applied Behavioral Science. I'm currently finishing my MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I've been working in the human/social services field for 17+ years. I've been fortunate to work with a diverse population; LGBTQ+, foster care and adoption, HIV/AIDS individuals, addictions and mental health. I'm a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor, an Ohio Certified Prevention Specialist, a Qualified Mental Health Specialist and a Certified Child and Youth Care Professional. For the last 10 years I've worked for substance abuse/mental health agencies where I predominantly worked on the substance abuse side of care. I'm active in my community. I'm co-chair of my church leadership team and a former member of the Mayor's Fair Housing Commission.

  • Self Identified Competition

The top 3 competitors are CommQuest, Coleman and Stark Metropolitan Housing Authority. All 3 agencies are the biggest in the county in their speciality; CommQuest drug and alcohol services, Coleman mental health services, Stark Metro housing. I feel that they've all grown and so did the wait list and the services have become less personable. I think what makes me different is I don't want to grow to be some huge corporation. When I grow I want there to be a max of 15 people working under the Good-N-Home name. I want the clients I serve and the individuals I work with to have interactions with each other and build relationships.
