The Purpose Over Popularity Program | Application Preview
The Purpose Over Popularity Program is seeking government funding to enhance its initiatives aimed at supporting girls of color aged 13 to 18 in Muskegon, MI. The funds will be allocated towards creating marketing materials for local events and leasing the organization's first facility. This center will provide essential resources such as Wi-Fi, food, and a Family Resource Center, where members and their families can access items like clothing and toiletries.
The program aspires to become a crucial resource hub in the community. By directly addressing the unique needs of young girls of color, the initiative aims to foster trust and investment from the public. Key features of the center will include after-school care with daily hot meals and safe transportation, promoting mental, personal, and academic growth among participants.
Research indicates that girls of color who engage in culturally relevant after-school programs show improved confidence and a stronger connection to their education. The Purpose Over Popularity Program emphasizes that empowering female leaders will ultimately benefit the entire community. While competing with established organizations like the Boys and Girls Club and Pathfinders of Muskegon, this program sets itself apart by focusing exclusively on the specific needs of girls of color, ensuring targeted support and resources.

Business Plan
With community support, I plan to make The Purpose Over Popularity Program a resource hub for girls of color from ages 13 to 18 years old in the community of Muskegon, MI. The more resourceful I am in addressing my community's needs, the more the public will likely trust and further invest in the program's mission to improve the quality of life for our female youth. My dream center will have a Family Resource Center where families of our members can access mittens, scarves, coats, socks, underwear, toiletries, etc. anytime during the week. After School Care will also be available with hot meals served daily while offering safe transportation home. Studies show girls of color that participated in an after-school program designed to create community around and pride in their culture and identity expressed greater confidence and more connection to and involvement with school. Cultivating a space to successfully run The Purpose Over Popularity Program will help enrich the lives of our female youth mentally, personally, and academically. And The Purpose Over Popularity Program believes that when we develop female leaders, our communities flourish.

Self Identified Competition
Boys and Girls Club of Muskegon and Pathfinders of Muskegon Our mission is to directly impact the lives of girls of color from ages 13 to 18 years old. Having a laser focus on this demographic ensures we're putting all of our resources into the specific needs of this group, rather than running a more broad or generalized youth program that Muskegon, MI already offers.
