Big Bad Serb LLC | Application Preview
Big Bad Serb LLC is seeking government grants to enhance its operations and support the expansion of its brand. The funds will be used to acquire equipment for full autonomy in production, reducing reliance on rental machinery. Additionally, the investment will facilitate the creation of a larger workspace for increased inventory storage and improved ventilation to ensure a healthier environment for employees.
The business aims to broaden its offerings to include home goods, holiday decorations, and high-fashion items, alongside establishing a physical retail location in St. Louis County. Big Bad Serb positions itself as one of the rare Serbian-American brands in the U.S., targeting the largely overlooked Serbian-American community. The brand believes that its unique cultural representation can drive significant growth, appealing not just within this demographic but potentially broader markets over time.
Claiming a lack of direct competition, the business highlights that existing players largely offer generic Serbian-themed merchandise. Big Bad Serb's distinctive approach—infusing Serbian culture, religion, nature, and mythology into fashion—has resonated well at local events, where it has consistently outperformed competitors. The brand's unique market position emphasizes its potential for success and expansion as it gains visibility.

Funding Usage
I would utilize these funds to purchase all the necessary equipment needed for my business to become fully autonomous, meaning I would not have to rent out machines in order to create my products. I would also use these funds to create a larger space for my business where I can store higher levels of inventory. I would also install more fans and air ducts so air can flow through the workspace and workers would not have to breathe in the fumes and gasses from the machines.

Business Plan
My goal is to expand the Big Bad Serb brand to feature home goods, Christmas decorations, high-fashion collections, as well as open up a brick and mortar store in St. Louis County. My brand is one of the few Serbian-American brands in the United States. My target audience is the vast Serbian-American population within the USA, this is an untapped market with endless possibilities. I believe that my brand is unique enough to succeed within this demographic and expand to other markets as the brand gains more notability.
-
Self Identified Competition
I do not have any competitors because no one makes the type of products that I make. My only competition has been small t-shirt shops that sell vague screen-printed images of famous Serbian's like Nikola Tesla, or descriptions like "Proud to be a Serb, cheers!". By comparing my brand to theirs I can conclude that I do not have competitors within the Serbian-American fashion community as of yet. When I go to Serbian events I typically outsell my competition because customers are usually surprised by my product and constantly tell me that they have never seen anything like it before. This is primarily because no other designer focuses on introducing Serbian culture, religion, nature, and mythology to Western & global audiences, I am targeting a truly unique market.
