Holl Bookkeeping Services 80-0762541 | Government Grant Application

Holl Bookkeeping Services | Application Preview

Holl Bookkeeping Services is seeking government grant funding to complete its office build, a project that has been ongoing for three years. The owner, who has invested personal finances into this endeavor but has reached a standstill, requires assistance to update software and hardware, including a new printer. Physical limitations due to a disability make it challenging to manage ongoing construction tasks, particularly flooring.

The business plan focuses on creating a professional environment that reflects growth and stability, allowing clients to transition from the owner's home to a dedicated workspace. The owner aims to expand the business by hiring additional help as client demand increases.

The owner’s journey includes overcoming personal challenges, like a divorce, and starting from scratch in the workforce. With a dual degree in math and banking, they have built a reputable bookkeeping and tax preparation service, gaining clients primarily through referrals. Despite setbacks during the COVID-19 pandemic, the business has thrived, supported by a reliable foundation and a strong commitment to client satisfaction.

Competing against accounting and tax preparation firms, the business claims a competitive edge due to its grassroots origins and strong endorsement from a former accountant. The owner has maximized resources to convert a garage into an office space, but further funding is needed to finalize upgrades and fully transition operations out of their home.

  • Funding Usage

I need to finish building my office that I started three years ago. I have used every spare penny to make this happen. I am at a stand still and I need help. I have programs that need to be updated, I need hardware that needs to be updated. I need a new printer, I have all the material for the build, but my body and knowledge is solely based on finances. Plus I have a physical disability of trying to lay down tile floor for many hours. I have several little projects to make this business lift off further, but mainly to get my clients out of my personal space which is my home and into a business surrounding which is the office I have been working on for the past 3 years.

  • Business Plan

With the build of my office, customers will see that I have grown out of my home, the website and reach out to people as well as my social skills as well. I plan on hiring another person to help me out with the work load once I am unable to meet the demand. I was going through a divorce, and finalized it in 2013. I stayed home with my children from 2002 until the day my divorce was finalized. I managed to secure a rent to own home. I rented it for 7 years before I qualified for a 1st time home buyer. In 2013, I took a job through craigslist taking a man's filing system and making sense out of it. Through the time, the man helped me in getting Quickbooks and giving me the opportunity to run his finances through the program because he too was going through a divorce. I was honored and he went to court with his financials all in order. He had to see an accountant for his taxes, and he showed the accountant what I had done for him. The accountant then called me in, and Congratulated me in doing an excellent job of his book. He said to me "Go get business cards, and make brochures because you are a Bookkeeper" and other accountant besides myself will refer work to you. He inspired me, from having no job to having a purpose. My slogan come from Wendell Berry "Time is Money". From my 1st client and from there after, referrals have not stopped. COVID-19 put a huge damper on the mom and pop section of business, but I survived by saving what I earned. I have a dual degree in math/banking. I have been doing the financial sector since I was 19. I worked for Key Bank as my 1st real job for 5 years in the check processing center. I owned and operated my own businesses and learned many trades throughout my life. I learned I don't play well with others, but I can tell others how they should save or conserve their spending. I started doing tax preparation since 2014, and I have gained every year at least 1 to 5 people each year. As far as my bookkeeping, I still have my original client from the referral of the original accountant who had faith in my ability of keep good books and having a purpose. My children are in college and my baby is graduating high school and leaving the nest as well. So my home is going to be quiet and empty, and Bookkeeping is the only job I have ever known and people come to me from referrals or my website, and never has any complaint yet. So I must be doing something right.

  • Self Identified Competition

Accounting firms Bookkeeping Firms Tax Prep firms (HR Block) I started out from a recommendation from an reliable accountant. I had not had any job since 2002 until 2014. I have built this bookkeeping and tax preparation business from ground up. I used all my money to invest into the build of my office meanwhile, raising 3 children living out of the school district. I have rented this home for 7 years, before I could buy it. I converted my 1 bay garage into an office. 2/3 office, while 1/3 is still a garage. I still have to put in the tile floor, I still have hire for hardscape on the side of the house, to put door and drop box for tax returns into my office. I have many things left to make this office a reality, and get my clients out of my home.
