Mindful Daydreaming | Application Preview
Mindful Daydreaming is seeking government grants to support various expenses, including wages, rent, utilities, advertising, start-up and office costs, as well as ongoing training. The business aims to expand its adult day center in Verona, WI, targeting around 30 participants daily. Charging between $100 and $120 for a full day and $60 for a half day, projections indicate a revenue of approximately $66,000 monthly with a full capacity.
As the only adult day center in the area, Mindful Daydreaming serves seniors with physical and cognitive challenges, providing essential support for their caregivers. The center helps alleviate isolation for the elderly while allowing caregivers to take breaks, which can delay the need for long-term care.
In terms of competition, the main rival is Agrace Adult Day Center, known for its hospice services, but Mindful Daydreaming differentiates itself with a more intimate and home-like environment. Although it lacks the backing of a larger organization, this independence allows for a unique approach tailored to community needs. The business already has one employee with extensive experience in senior care and is employing grassroots marketing strategies to attract more participants.
To stand out further, Mindful Daydreaming plans to offer transportation services and additional community engagement activities through a community van. By enhancing its visibility and presence in the community, the center seeks to grow its participant base and fulfill its mission of improving the lives of seniors and their caregivers. The application emphasizes the need for funding to bolster these efforts and support the growing needs of the local population.

Business Plan
Through continued marketing efforts and community relations my goal is to grow to having about 30 participants who are attending the day center at any given time. I currently charge 100-120.00 for a full day of services and 60.00 for a half day of services. 30 participants times an average of 110.00 per day, 5 days per week, gives us a monthly revenue of 66,000 for a 4 week month. We would have to staff at a higher level and offer programs and services to include food costs of about 10.00 per day per full-time person and under 5.00 for part-time person. Financially, I plan to apply to work with VA funding once the application for the program is again open. Mindful Daydreaming is currently the only adult day center in Verona, WI. We are focused on providing engagement and care for seniors who have physical and/or cognitive inabilities that are commonly associated with advanced age and Dementia/Alzheimer's. The day center serves as a great opportunity for primary caregivers to maintain a healthy balance as they continue to care for their loved ones at home, which helps to avoid long-term care placement for a longer period of time. Adult day programs are a way for seniors to avoid prolonged isolation and give caregivers a break. I appreciation your consideration and hope to find those individuals who want to assist me in giving back to our community, especially our seniors.

Self Identified Competition
Agrace Adult Day Center - Located about 15 minutes from us. Agrace is a large non-profit organization with many services to offer to Seniors, however they are best known for their hospice program. I would consider them our number one competitor at this time, but we are in Verona which is truly a community all of its own and the people who live there really like to stay there when possible. Given their pre-established presence and known reputation in the community, they do benefit from direct organizational referrals and a large advertising budget. Catholic Charities Adult Day Center- is located much further away and is also run by a non-profit organization. I find that most people, unless they are in the industry or are actively looking for Adult Day Services, have not heard of them. Mindful Daydreaming is unique in that it offers a more intimate setting compared to the others. It is quite comfortable and feels more like a home then a restaurant, classroom or office setting. It is arranged in a circular pattern which makes it friendly for those who have Dementia/Alzheimers. Mindful Daydreaming is a grass roots, women owned, business. Unlike some of the competitors I do not have the backing of a larger organization, but this does provide me the opportunity to make it my own and be unique. I opened up to advertising in September and do have our first participant signed up, but I need to continue to grow quickly and feel, if given the right advertising and word of mouth, participation will continue to grow each week. It is a great environment where individuals have space to move around, but yet it is small enough that it feels homelike. Our goal is to help those who need our attention to live their best lives! I would like to set Mindful Daydreaming apart from others by offering transportation to and from and more opportunities to participate in events/programs outside of the day center. Having a community van would make this possible. Mindful Daydreaming is unique in that I have just one employee at this time, who has been working with Seniors for the past 26 years. Together we have prepped the day center, organized a structured way of doing programs and ensured we are in compliance. We have done some advertising and community relations over the past few weeks, but we could use some additional dollars to aid in continuing our efforts to let others know we are here to help.
