United Ministries in Christ Church 834254889 | Government Grant Application

United Ministries in Christ Church | Application Preview

United Ministries in Christ Church is seeking a $300,000 government grant to complete and furnish a community building that will support their various programs. The organization has already secured land and made a significant deposit on a facility. Their primary goal is to assist around 10 families annually with counseling by covering co-pays or providing sliding fee assistance for those unable to afford these costs. They also plan to expand their services to include medication co-pay assistance.

To enhance their services, the church aims to create new giving opportunities, encouraging beneficiaries to volunteer in maintaining and improving the facility. They are developing partnerships with local government and organizations such as Emory University to further their mission.

The church stands out due to its inclusive leadership and community-centric approach. It has a strong network with organizations like PFLAG, the Cumberland County HIV Taskforce, and others, demonstrating a long-standing commitment to community service since 2008. Despite limited financial contributions from members, they manage their resources effectively.

In terms of competition, other local organizations like SHRAHEC Center focus on specific demographics, such as HIV-positive males, while health departments offer LGBTQIA services that are underutilized. United Ministries has a competitive advantage by being a church that is integrated into the local LGBTQIA community, which helps reduce stigma and fosters engagement. The leadership's deep ties to the community, combined with extensive experience in social work, position them favorably to achieve successful outcomes in their initiatives.

We plan to increase our program by creating more avenues of giving opportunities. We plan to offer give back opportunities for those who benefit from our services to do volunteer hours that help maintain, beautify or upkeep the grounds of the facility. We are developing an ongoing relationship with our local city government and others programs like Emory University, etc. We are one of a few churches led by a black gay male who welcomes all people and create programs that work alongside other community entities to serve our community. We have close relationships with PFLAG of Fayetteville, Cumberland County HIV Taskforce, RuRu Rainbow of dance, Cumberland Health Department and the list goes on. We have served this community in many ways since 2008. We have a heavy community volunteer system. We have managed our funds well with a small group of people and only about 20% of our membership being able to give more than $100 a year.

  • Self Identified Competition

SHRAHEC Center focuses on serving the HIV male community. They have a few programs geared towards that. They have great success but still a significant amount of individuals go underserved. Our Health Department and Plan parenthood has programs for the LGBTQIA community. However the engagement is no where near as close to the amount of individuals in this community that needs it. All these 3 competitors have stigma attached to them that makes it a bit challenges to engage the merger community. We being a church who is well connected to the club scene, Fayetteville Gay Pride and can camaflouge our services with our name and how we interact in the community. Our president has 14 years of actively living in this community with 20 years of social work services. We are divorced in age and have membership who was born and raised here, which gives us the edge on having successful outcomes.
