Reilly Red Dirt Farmhouse | Application Preview
Reilly Red Dirt Farmhouse is applying for government grants to expand its operations. The funds will be used to acquire an additional 13 acres, build a fence, construct a horse riding stall, and purchase cattle. The business plans to enhance the decor and dance floor in one of its barns to begin hosting events.
As a retiring military veteran with two decades of service, including seven years overseas, the applicant aims to transition from military life to full-time farming. The vision includes growing hay, raising livestock, and establishing greenhouses for fruits and vegetables, all while providing quality organic products to counter the cheap, chemical-laden offerings from large companies.
While local farmers are present, the market remains underdeveloped, leaving room for quality, organic goods. The applicant’s competitive advantage comes from a strong background in finance, having managed budgets of up to eleven million dollars. This financial expertise allows for effective cost management and operations in a smaller farming context. Additionally, the applicant intends to become an approved Department of Defense employer to train transitioning military members, providing cost-free labor while equipping them with valuable skills for their new civilian careers.

Funding Usage
I would like to start out purchasing an additional 13 acres and put up a fence, a proper horse riding stall, purchase some additional cattle from a family friend, after that I would like to update the decor and dance floor in one of my barns and start hosting venues.

Business Plan
I am retiring from the military and as profits come in I would continue to purchase land to grow hay, and raise livestock working full time farming instead of just as a hobby. I would also like to build some greenhouses and grow fruit and vegetables. I have spent most of my adult life serving the country, I have served for twenty years, seven years of it overseas in forty one countries, and numerous combat zones. I have loved serving, but can only do it for so long. I would like to continue serving by providing quality organic products. With inflation and the cost of products continuing to rise big companies have to find more ways to produce cheaper products adding chemicals and antibiotics to their products. Even though I am starting small I would like to grow in order to better the market.

Self Identified Competition
Local farmers could be considered but the marked is under saturated and plenty of room for quality products. I have a background in finance and have been in charge of budgeting and balancing budgets of eleven million dollars. Going from big operations and budgets with multiple cost centers to a small farm is easy. There are not too many people in the industry that can do the numbers and the work. In addition I am working on becoming an approved DoD employer so that I can teach these skills to transitioning military members in the event that they want to get into the industry. This will provide no cost labor to me and give members transitioning to civilian live a leg up with experience.
