Spokes Craft Beer and Tapas 81-3996434 | Government Grant Application

Spokes Craft Beer and Tapas | Application Preview

Spokes Craft Beer and Tapas is seeking government grants to purchase the historical building they currently rent and to alleviate rising monthly costs due to inflation, tax increases, and higher food and utility expenses. By acquiring the property, they aim to expand their business in a revitalized downtown area that is attracting new enterprises.

As a small, woman-owned, disabled veteran family business, Spokes has established a strong community presence, particularly among families from the nearby Fort Drum military base. They actively participate in fundraising and charitable events, reinforcing their commitment to local growth and military partnerships.

While there are several restaurants in the vicinity, Spokes stands out with its unique offerings of craft beer and tapas, providing a different dining experience compared to other local establishments. Their closest competitor is a self-service restaurant 1.5 miles away, while a new brewpub is set to open in spring.

Spokes' competitive advantage lies in its inviting atmosphere, a loyal and experienced staff, and an extensive selection of over 100 craft beers and exceptional cocktails. These elements contribute to a warm, home-like experience that keeps customers coming back.

  • Funding Usage

The possibility of buying the historical building we are currently renting and to help offset monthly costs due to inflation and an increase in taxes, food costs and other utilities expenses.

  • Business Plan

If we are able to purchase the building we could double the amount of business in the center of a historical square. The town is working on a revitalization project for downtown, and more businesses are hoping to move to downtown, which would bring us more business as well. We are a small, Woman Disabled Veteran owned family business that has a huge following in the community and especially with the families on the nearby Army Base (Fort Drum). Our restaurant is in a prime location in the middle of the square and has been used for various fundraising and charitable events to help the local community. We give back as much as we can to help our little town grow, and foster the partnership with the local military.

  • Self Identified Competition

There are a few restaurants in the downtown area, however we all have a different niche. Ours is Craft beer and Tapas, or small shareable plates. There are a few family style restaurants, a brewery, with another on opening on the edge of downtown, and a few other sandwich shoppes and bars with bar type food. Our closest competitor is about 1.5 miles away and is a place where you serve yourself. The other closest to our type will be the new brew pub that will open in the spring. They have three locations in the upstate area, and have been pretty successful. The atmosphere, it’s rustic but classy. The staff have been there since we opened and are one of the biggest assists we have. They are not only friendly but they make you feel like home, which is why we bought the place a year ago from the original owners. We offer over 100 craft beers from our 99 bottles of beer on the wall, and on tap. Not to mention our bartender, who should be working in NYC, creates the best cocktails around.
