Serenidad Counseling LLC | Application Preview
Serenidad Counseling LLC is applying for government grants to partner with Activa LLC and establish a clinic in 2024 that will offer both mental and physical health services, focusing primarily on underserved Latino communities. The founders, Thalia and the owner of Serenidad, bring personal experience as immigrants and first-generation graduates, with a shared commitment to improving access to quality care.
To launch this initiative, they are seeking a loan of $498,000, which will be used for purchasing land, constructing the clinic, paying salaries for two administrative assistants, and acquiring necessary office supplies. They project initial revenues of over $200,000 in the first year, with potential income reaching up to $500,000 as they expand their team, which includes hiring additional therapists and nurse practitioners.
The founders are driven by their journeys overcoming educational and financial barriers as undocumented immigrants. Their story underscores their dedication to serving their community and highlights their resilience. They emphasize that their bilingual capabilities and commitment to lower rates for services set them apart from local competitors, enabling better access for clients who face barriers to care. They plan to remain competitive by offering sliding scale fees and focusing on women's health issues, alongside mental health and addiction services.
Approval of their funding request will support their vision of creating a supportive clinic environment that prioritizes affordability and quality care for their community.

Funding Usage
In 2023 I am partnering up with Activa LLC. Our goal is to open a physical space in 2024 for a clinic. This clinic will provide both mental health services as well as physical health services. Activa owner has a PhD in Nursing and I hold a graduate degree in Mental Health and Addictions. Our mission is to bring services to underserved communities in our area at affordable prices. Both Thalia, owner of Activa, and I, owner of Serenidad Counseling LLC, share a passion about helping the Latino community members who have barriers to access to quality care. We are both immigrants and first generation graduates seeking to create opportunities for the next generation. We are both fluent in Spanish which sets us aside from our local competition. We are looking for a hefty initial start up loan of $498,000 majorly for the purchase of land and construction of a physical space that will suit our needs now and in the future. This amount will also help us with employee salary for two administrative assistants as well as for office equipment and supplies. During the first year of operations we are expecting to bring in over 200K in income. This is very conservative amount assuming that both her and I are the only practitioners. We are hoping to grow the team by 2 members in mental health wing and 2 nurse practitioners in the physical health wing. It is possible our income could reach up to 500k in the first year of operations. Long term goals is to have 4 full time therapists, 4 part time therapists in Mental Health wing. LT goal for physical health wing is 3 full time Nurse Practitioners and 2 part time nurses. In year two of this collaboration we are expecting a revenue of over $800K.

Business Plan
During the first year of operations we are expecting to bring in over 200K in income. This is very conservative amount assuming that both partners are the only practitioners. We are hoping to grow the team by two members in mental health wing and two nurse practitioners in the physical health wing. It is possible our income to reach up to 500k in the first year of operations. Long term goals is to hire and retain four full time therapists, four part time therapists in Mental Health wing. Our long term goal for physical health wing is three full time Nurse Practitioners and two part time nurses. In year two of this collaboration we are expecting a revenue of over $800K. This will increase as we hire more staff. Thalia and I first met in 2007 during our first summer in college. As first generation we both qualified for a leadership academy opportunity which afforded us our first semester in college. Back then we also shared that we were both immigrants from Mexico. Both brought to the US at a very early age from our birth nation. Our journeys to our college degrees was not easy. On my own part from struggling with cancer, depression and teen pregnancy I strayed from my educational goals. Thalia also shared her struggles as a mother of then 2 children she also had many barriers to her educational goals. Aside from life and day to day responsibilities we had the additional barriers that we were both undocumented. We, compared to others, had to pay three times tuition costs to be able to obtain our degrees. Regardless of all these barriers and thanks to the DACA program Thalia and I were able to push through and achieve our dreams of obtaining both our bachelors and masters degrees. Despite paying out of pocket and taking care of our children we were both able to accomplish what we set forward to do. I share this sensitive information to share both our passion and motivation to continue to pave a path of success for our latino community members. As to why investors should invest in us it is simple, there is no risk with us. We know what we want to do and we will work hard to make it happen. There is little to deter us now that we are both married to wonderful supportive spouses and no longer have to worry about our documented status. We are motivated to reach new heights both for ourselves but also for our community.

Self Identified Competition
In the area there are multiple private practices that offer mental health services. Our only competitor would be Psyche Pointe owned by Dr. Holleman. She is a great mentor who I admire and look up to. She now owns two private practices and continues to extend her reach into areas of Mishawaka/South Bend. What makes us different is simple, our passion and motivation. We have the immigrant hustle in us that pushes us to both provide quality care and to make it affordable. We are both fluent Spanish speakers and we have colleagues in our fields that have expressed interest in joining us. We are committed to keeping our services at lower rate for the specific population we would like to reach. An example of this; most private practice practitioners in the area charge $160 for intake session and $125 for individual sessions. Our fees are $140 intake and $100. Part of the core of our values is access to quality care at an affordable price. As an employer I am hoping to lead by example by taking on one client per week at a rate of $20 per session that would be donated to the business to grow our outreach fund. Although it is not an expectation we have added incentives for the therapists who also would like to take on sliding scale clients. This rate would be good for 12 sessions. Our specialization will be on women's issues. However, both Thalia and I have certifications and trainings in addictions as well.
