NORTHMEN HOLDINGS LLC 204024996 | Government Grant Application

NORTHMEN HOLDINGS LLC | Application Preview

NORTHMEN HOLDINGS LLC is seeking government grants to purchase material handling equipment, which will enhance their capabilities in the safe refurbishment industry. Currently, the business has a reliable source for safes retrieved from decommissioned banks. By acquiring their own equipment, they will eliminate rental costs and expand their inventory by sourcing safes from online classifieds. This equipment will also enable them to provide moving services for customers who already own safes.

Looking ahead, the business plans to repurpose materials from decommissioned ATMs, offering shells at no cost besides transportation. The steel from these ATMs is similar to that used in commercial safes and can be utilized for various purposes, including high-caliber targets and reinforcing existing safes.

The application emphasizes the environmental benefits of this service, as many safes are discarded in landfills when a business closes. Commercial safes provide greater security than standard gun safes, often weighing significantly more. The company identifies a lack of competitors specializing in used commercial safes in their area, particularly as local gun safe companies typically do not handle very heavy models.

NORTHMEN HOLDINGS aims to fill this niche with a competitive advantage. Their refurbished safes are tested and certified for security and fire protection, offering a superior alternative to consumer models that often use less effective materials for fire resistance. The company sells these refurbished safes at about one-third the price of new ones, making high-quality security accessible to a broader audience. Overall, the funding is positioned as a valuable investment for both customers and the environment.

  • Business Plan

Today I have one solid source for safes that are removed from decommissioned banks, however with my own equipment and not needing to rent, I will be able to source them off online classifieds and compound the amount of refurbished units. When I do have my own equipment I will also be able to be hired to move safes customers already owns. In the near future I would also like to repurpose the steel in decommissioned ATM's. I can currently get the shell for no cost other than going to pick them up. ATM's are almost like commercial safes, their plate steel could be used in the making of very high caliber targets for guns, extra 1/2" of steel to an existing safe and other uses. I think the service I provide is a real value for customers and the environment. Many of these safes end up going to a scrap yard or land fill when a business is closed. The real great thing about commercial safes is they are so much more secure than a common gun safe or unit you would buy from a sporting store. Many times the door alone on a commercial safe outweighs the whole unite of a consumer model of the same size.

  • Self Identified Competition

I do not know of any specific company that only deals in used commercial safes near me. Many of the gun safe companies in Oregon are not interested in moving a 10,000 LB safe. Much of the general public purchase gun safes from sporting goods stores and believe they are getting actual security from criminals. The commercial safes I get are tested and certified by Underwriters Laboratories for specific attacks and can be insurance rated in general for $150,000-375,000, in some rare occasions I get a self contained mobile vault that can be more. When it comes to the fire rated units there is really no comparison, the average consumer safe uses gypsum board/ dry wall for the fire protection when the safes I refurbish use concrete amalgamates and some a second fire door inside the safe. Commercial safes new are usually out of the price range of the average consumer and are not even advertised much. The safes I provide are used and I sell them delivered for around a 1/3rd of the price new.
