Black Sheep Universal LLC 20211307752 | Government Grant Application

Black Sheep Universal LLC | Application Preview

Black Sheep Universal LLC is seeking government grants to enhance its offerings in the martial arts sector. The funds will be used to acquire essential equipment, including heavy boxing bags, double-ended bags, medicine balls, and safety gear such as a belly pad and shin guards. This investment aims to attract more customers for both private and group lessons.

Currently operating at Kraken BJJ, the business plans to move to a larger location to accommodate simultaneous MMA and jiu-jitsu classes, as well as to introduce a dedicated kids class. Marketing efforts will target platforms like Google and Yelp to reach a broader audience. The head coach's expertise and connections are highlighted as a significant advantage in attracting adult and child learners.

The proposal emphasizes the growing interest in martial arts, spurred by events like the UFC, and positions the business as a comprehensive training and gear provider for martial artists of all ages. Colorado Springs lacks a robust MMA scene, and the company aspires to fill that gap by offering high-quality training without the need for local fighters to travel to Denver.

In terms of competition, the business identifies its top rivals in both gym facilities and martial arts gear. What sets Black Sheep Universal apart is its ability to provide all-in-one solutions, including diverse class schedules that accommodate various lifestyles, and a strong focus on personalized training. This holistic approach aims to establish the business as a cornerstone in the local martial arts community.

  • Funding Usage

With this funding I would purchase several items for my private and group lessons. Having this equipment would be a draw for more people to purchase lessons from the business. I would purchase heavy boxing bags as well as double-ended bags to improve their speed and precision. I would also purchase medicine balls for weighted workouts. Safety equipment for myself would also be purchased. This would include most importantly a belly pad to protect from kicks and body punches. Lastly, for sales I would purchase a set of 50 shin guards to match the boxing gloves that I am currently selling.

  • Business Plan

For the martial arts lesson section of my business we currently operate out of Kraken BJJ. We plan on continuing this collaboration but moving to a larger space with a more defined layout where both mma and jiu jitsu classes can be held simultaneously. We also plan on starting a kids class. Right now we only offer private lessons for children, but a full kids class would have a larger draw in customers. With the equipment I plan on purchasing with the funds, I would have a one of the best equipped classes in the Colorado Springs area. I would also market on both Google and Yelp. There are quite a few MMA gyms in Colorado Springs, but not many have the connections and knowledge of our head coach. His knowledge and connections put us in an elite group able to have fighters and get them fights. This marketing would bring in more adults to our private lessons as well as group lessons, and more children as well. For my gear line, I would offer a full line of equipment to martial artists. This would include all necessary, matching gear. They would be able to purchase boxing gloves, shin guards, puffy gloves, hand wraps all from my store. This would be available to both my own student and online to anyone interested in martial arts. Due in large part to the popularity of the UFC, as well as several other factors martial arts participation is growing. This includes the practices of jiu-jitsu, Muay Thai, kickboxing and boxing all of which my company is able to teach. With the increase in participation, also comes an increase in need of gear. My company will be a one stop shop for both; capable of training and gearing martial artists of all ages. Colorado Springs doesn't yet have a large successful MMA scene. The gyms located here fight mainly in small local shows. It's our intent to change that with the population in the Springs, we do need a gym that can train these fighters and find them larger fights. Local fighters should not have to commute to Denver for world class training.

  • Self Identified Competition

Our 3 top gym competitors are: Cies MMA, Warrior Fitness, and Merc Jiu Jitsu MMA Fitness OUr top 3 gear competitors are Sanabul, Venum, and Elite. My business is different from my competitors in that it's a one stop shop for martial artists. We are able to provide classes for groups, private lessons (to get that individual attention), and gear as well. We work very closely with our athletes to make sure they're getting the very best training and time possible. We differ from more traditional gyms in that we offer lessons throughout the day. This way people with less traditional schedules still get the time and attention they deserve to perfect their craft.
