Burly Custom Screen Printing | Application Preview
Burly Custom Screen Printing is seeking government grants to support essential business expenses such as rent, supplies, insurance, and utilities. With over 20 years of experience, the owner emphasizes a commitment to running the business ethically and responsibly, maintaining all necessary licenses, and staying compliant with tax regulations.
The business plan focuses on streamlined operations, prioritizing larger orders of 48 pieces or more to improve profit margins, which have been challenging, especially after considering personal expenses like health insurance and food. The owner aims to work with clients who appreciate quality service rather than those who prioritize low prices.
The application highlights a respectful relationship with competitors who also uphold business integrity, noting the challenge posed by lower-cost "sweatshop" operations which often lead to issues for clients. Burly Custom Screen Printing's competitive advantage lies in its reliability and commitment to quality, which has fostered a loyal customer base willing to pay for superior service. This grant would help the business thrive in a competitive environment while maintaining its standards.

Funding Usage
Rent, Supplies, Insurance, Electric Bill etc. I have been in business for 20 plus years. I take pride in the way I run my business. I have all the correct insurance and business licenses. I file my sales and income tax on time, always. Running a business correctly in my region makes for a low profit margin. After personal health insurance and food it's rough. I love what I do, don't get me wrong. But I print for a few organizations that benefit from grant funding so I thought I would give it a shot.

Business Plan
I have been running my shop for 20 years. Now that I am a bit older, I am narrowing down the type of clients / orders I take on. I have found over 20 years that my passion is for the bulk work on my automated machine. So my new minimum is 48 pieces. Profit margin is extremely rough on small tedious orders. Also, cutting down on the clients that are just plain ungrateful. I want to focus on the customers that respect what I do and aren't trying to hammer me on price every order. Another growth that I experienced over Covid was finding help. Being that I am now focused on the orders that are larger, I no longer have the pressure of taking on unwanted orders to keep an employee happy. I was taking on orders that are great for the client, and my worker, but no money for the business / me. I have been in business for 20 plus years. I take pride in the way I run my business. I have all the correct insurance and business licenses. I file my sales and income tax on time, always. When I had employees, I always had workers comp and paid the proper payroll taxes. Running a business correctly in my region makes for a low profit margin. After personal health insurance and food it's rough. I love what I do, don't get me wrong. But I print for a few organizations that benefit from grant funding so I thought I would give it a shot.

Self Identified Competition
My top 3 competitors are other local shops that I respect. There is a place a few towns away called "In Bin T-Shirts" in La Habra, CA. I respect them. I have known them for awhile and I know they do things correct as well. Another company I have respect for is "Sunbird Embroidery" in Anaheim, CA. Another great family that likes to run a correct business. The hard part of my business is sweatshop style businesses. They tempt my clients with low prices. Generally in time these clients resurface due to a sweatshops poor communication or just plain old mistakes. In my 20 years I have built a steady customer base of clients who don't mind paying me a bit more to know the job will be done on time, and correctly. I have been in business for 20 plus years.
