Blue Jay Play Cafe | Application Preview
Blue Jay Play Cafe is seeking government grants to fund the customization of their space, which includes installing plumbing, building counters, and creating a party room. The grant will also help purchase essential coffee shop equipment, such as an espresso machine and starting inventory, alongside play equipment and seating for parents, totaling $30,000. Additionally, some funds will go towards their initial operating capital.
The business aims to open multiple locations in the Surf City or Hampstead area, with plans to eventually offer summer camps and drop-in care for mothers. The core belief of Blue Jay Play Cafe is that children learn best through play, particularly between the ages of 0-6. They identified a significant gap in facilities catering to young children in the area, which has a growing population of young families. By creating a supportive community environment, they hope to fill this void, making their café a valuable resource for families.
In terms of competition, the café will face places like Gemstone Dream and Napoli Cafe, but it will differentiate itself by specifically targeting families with infants and preschoolers. Unlike existing playgrounds and sports programs that focus more on older children, Blue Jay Play Cafe will provide a safe and welcoming space for younger kids. With no similar facility within a 100-mile radius and a higher than average birth rate in the area, the need for this business is evident.

Business Plan
We would love to open multiple locations in the Surf City or Hampstead area. As we grow in popularity, we would love to offer summer camps and possibly drop in care for moms heading to appointments. We believe in learning through play. Children were made to move and it is a crucial part of their development particularly children ages 0-6. There is virtually no facilities in this area that caters to this age group and with the amount of young families here, this business would be a huge blessing to this community. We want to help families build a village and be their support system.

Self Identified Competition
Gemstone Dream (Surf City): offers open play and birthday packages Napoli Cafe (Sneads Ferry): coffee shop We will be serving the young families specifically. There are playgrounds and sports programs for older children leaving a gap in the market for younger children. Our space will be geared toward crawling babies up to preschool age kids. Providing a safe environment for them to play and a nice environment for parents to chat with friends or get some remote work done. There is nothing like this within 100 miles of our community, and the birth rates in this area are higher on average than the rest of the US. There are plenty of young children with a need for a space like this.
