Prairie Hills Poultry 92-1893928 | Government Grant Application

Prairie Hills Poultry | Application Preview

Prairie Hills Poultry is applying for a government grant to secure funding that will be utilized for various essential developments to expand their poultry business. The total funding requested is $50,000, earmarked for specific projects:

- $20,000 for drilling a new well to meet increased water needs for the chickens. - $15,000 to construct 10 to 15 coops and runs for the birds. - $20,000 for a facility to house chicks, eggs, incubators, and food/shipping supplies. - $20,000 to establish an egg washing station, acquire packaging supplies and marketing materials, purchase necessary birds, and invest in essential equipment like lights and incubators.

The business envisions significant growth, projecting an increase of 50% per year, aiming to raise between 2,000 and 10,000 birds within five years. The plan emphasizes the need for local access to sustainable, farm-fresh eggs and year-round availability of chickens in rural Montana. Prairie Hills Poultry intends to support the community by donating excess eggs to local food banks and providing roosters to 4-H and FFA students.

The application highlights a current market gap, as Prairie Hills Poultry would be one of the few larger operations capable of catering to a broad area of Montana, competing mainly with local small hatcheries and the Hudderitte colonies. The business's competitive advantage lies in its commitment to community welfare and affordability, avoiding the transfer of inflation costs to customers. With minimal overhead after the initial year, the farm aims to promote self-sustainability and quality local food access in the region. Additionally, the owner plans to facilitate local pickups across Montana, enhancing convenience for customers.

50,000 will be spent as follows; 20,000 to drill a new well for addional water needed for all of the chickens 15,000 to build the 10-15 coops and runs for the birds 20,000 to build a building for housing the chicks, eggs, incubators and food/shipping supplies 20,000 to have an egg washing station, packaging supplies, marketing materials, purchasing the birds necessary to grow, lights and incubators and brooders.

  • Business Plan

If we were able to get a grant to start, we plan on growing this into a full time business. Our projected growth is 50% per year. To having 2000-10,000 birds by the end of 5 years. We are growing a business in Rural Montana where the need for sustainable farm fresh eggs and a place locally to get chickens year round. We will be donating extra eggs to our local food banks as well as donating roosters to local 4-H and FFA students. With the cost of everything inflating we have built a sustainable farm plan to help others provide for their families without having to pay extravagant prices or by not being able to get items shipped. I will be making a monthly tour along a route of most of Montana providing local pickup opportunities.

  • Self Identified Competition

My current 3 top competitors are the Hudderitte colonies, especially Mountain View Colony and a few local small hatcheries but I would be the only larger one capable of helping a larger portion of Montana. I am a local small business owner looking to improve the lives of other locals. I do not plan to pass along expensive inflation to my customers. After the intial year there is very little business overhead and expenses minus feed cost and occasional restock of new bloodlines. There is a large rise in need to be able to be self sustainable or to be able to purchase quality food from local farms.
