Bessie Coleman Aviation All-Stars 81-1990356 | Government Grant Application

Bessie Coleman Aviation All-Stars | Application Preview

Bessie Coleman Aviation All-Stars is applying for government grants to broaden its programming aimed at underserved youth across the United States. The organization plans to expand by hiring more instructors as the number of students increases. For the past two years, remote learning through Zoom has been effective, with instructors typically being retired airline pilots passionate about working with young people. Their extensive flying experience enriches the curriculum and keeps students engaged.

To further enhance the program, Bessie Coleman Aviation All-Stars seeks to collaborate with schools to incorporate aviation classes into after-school programs. Activities would include flying drones and visiting aircraft at local airports, as well as attending airshows—often a first-time experience for many students. The organization believes that expanding its reach nationwide will positively impact many young lives.

The grant funding is vital to support the legacy of Bessie Coleman, the first African American woman and Native American to earn a pilot's license. Historically, STEM aviation programs have not been widely attended by students of color, and this initiative aims to spark interest in aviation among youths who may have had limited exposure.

While competing organizations like Youth Aviation Adventure and Young Eagles Flights share similar goals, Bessie Coleman Aviation All-Stars stands out by offering its programs at no cost to participants, ensuring there are no financial barriers to attendance. The organization emphasizes its commitment to promoting STEM education, introducing students to various aviation careers, and celebrating historical figures in aviation—all without charging fees, which enhances their competitive edge.

  • Business Plan

As we get more students, we will hire more instructors to teach the youth. For the past two years, we have had successful remote learning programs through Zoom. Our instructors are generally retired airline pilots who have a genuine interest in working with young people and teaching our curriculum. Their flying experiences heighten the breadth and depth of our curriculum so that students remain engaged and intrigued. As we get more students in specific areas, we hope to partner with schools so that we can hold our classes in the schools as part of after school programs so that students can fly drones and visit airplanes in hangers at local airports. We would also like to take the youths to airshows on airplanes. On some of our past trips, we had students that had never flown in an airplane. We know that by expanding our program across the country, we will have a positive impact on the lives of many youths. We want you to invest in the Bessie Coleman Aviation All-Stars to support the legacy and dreams of Bessie Coleman who was the first African American woman and Native American to obtain a flying license. Currently and in the past, STEM programs with a focus on aviation, have not been widely attended by students of color. Our program is designed to whet the appetite of youths who may not have had an interest in aviation simply because they were not exposed to it. We know we can change the trajectory of our youth through exposure to our program.

  • Self Identified Competition

Youth Aviation Adventure, Young Eagles Flights While there may be similarities in our approach to exposing youth to aviation, we do not charge a fee for participants to attend our programs which is why this grant is so important to us. We do not have any financial barriers that limit youths from attending our program. Bessie Coleman Aviation All-Stars promotes the legacy of Bessie Coleman through STEM ( science, technology, engineering, math) programming, educates students in the fundamentals of aeronautics, introduces students to various careers in aviation and explores historical and cultural aviation figures. Also, youth can attend our program without paying any fees or charges.
