  • Business Plan

Currently, I have my truck and trailer leased to Landstar Systems headquartered in Jacksonville, FL Landstar Systems is a publicly traded company which provides coaching and freight brokerage services, to owner operators and fleet owners. Landstar currently has approximately 13000 owner operators leased on to Landstar. It is our plan to become one of those Fleet Owners with multiple trucks and trailers leased to Landstar. Landstar also provides freight insurance services, tire discounts, a safety program as well as a network of freight brokers and agents that are also individually owned businesses that work up under the Landstar brand like I do. Our trucks travel all of the lower 48 States and Canada as far as Alaska to NewFoundland Our truck is old and we're having transmission trouble that we just can't seem to overcome. We had the transmission replaced in January of last year and had the transmission rebuilt again using high performance parts in November of last year and it's still weak making a noise like you are running over a cattle grate. It's truly making us look unprofessional and un-dependable because of not being able to haul heavier loads than 5000 lbs for fear of beaking down again. Since October 2021, we have broken down seven or eight times. Our truck is a 2007 Dodge Ram One Ton Dually and I've worked it hard since I first purchased it in 2015 , I'm afraid it's just time for a new truck and retire this truck to family use only. I've owned or been part owner of three businesses over the course of my lifetime, but My wife actually owns 51% of Landrum Consolidated Investments, LLC . Last year, she became a Naturalized Citizen from the Philippines. As we age, we are trying to build something to in order to help others less fortunate than ourselves, as well as build something to leave our children.

  • Self Identified Competition

The are many others in the Hotshot Division at Landstar, and many approved carriers(have their own trucking authority, but not leased exclusively to Landstar) that carry freight for Landstar. I don't view it as being in competition with anyone, because you can only be in any one given place at any one time. I think there is plenty of work to go around. It all depends on building relationships and the freight agents you've worked with before, knowing that you are always actively trying to make them look good to their clients. They will remember this about you, and will be calling you to carry their freight when they see your truck on their computer as being in the area where their next load is picking up. These brokers and agents will remember you. It's all about building relationships and doing what you say you'll do, when you say you're going to do it. That fact shouldn't make a difference, but in this day and age, that's becoming a rarity.
