Salty's Clam Shack 82-4432193 | Government Grant Application

Salty's Clam Shack | Application Preview

Salty's Clam Shack is seeking government grants to purchase a new commercial dishwasher, essential for improving operations and addressing staffing challenges in dishwashing. Currently, the dishwasher's cost is around $10,000, while the business has set aside $2,000 for this purpose. Timely dishwashing affects order fulfillment and customer satisfaction, indicating a need for this investment.

The business has recently expanded by adding an ice cream window and plans to introduce milkshakes and sundaes. They are also applying for a beer and wine permit and constructing additional picnic tables to enhance seating capacity.

Salty's Clam Shack emphasizes its strong business model and unique market position as the only takeout restaurant at the Weakapaug end of Misquamicut Beach, which provides a solid customer base. The establishment features outdoor dining with attractive amenities and ample parking, crucial for attracting beachgoers.

In terms of competition, the nearby restaurant Two Little Fish offers a similar menu but is situated far enough away to cater to a different crowd. Salty's Clam Shack distinguishes itself through a customer-friendly ice cream discount initiative and a supportive beach club that sends customers their way.

The business boasts a loyal customer following and positive reputation, with its inviting outdoor seating area and ample parking setting it apart from competitors. Their passion for running the clam shack and commitment to success further strengthen their case for funding approval.

  • Funding Usage

We would like to purchase a dishwasher for our kitchen. We have had the most trouble hiring an individual to wash dishes. And also keeping up with the dishwashing. This limits our ability to get orders out in a timely manner thus decreasing our sales. (and customers get frustrated with the wait time). I have set aside $2,000 to purchase a commercial dishwasher but the cost is approximately $10,000.

  • Business Plan

We have added an ice cream window. Last year we only sold cones, this year we are adding milkshakes and sundeas. We are also in the process of applying for a beer and wine permit. We are having additional picnic tables built right now to allow for more seating. I believe we have a strong business model and the potential to become very successful. Our clam shack is the only take out restaurant at the Weakapaug end of Misquamicut Beach which puts us in a great position to capture sales. We also have a large parking lot which is very important at Misquamicut beach. We have outside dining with a nice inlet and small beach for our customers. But most importanatly, we LOVE running a clam shack and have the motivation and perserverence to be great!

  • Self Identified Competition

Down at the other end of the beach is a restaurant called Two Little Fish. They also sell the same items on our menu. They are far enough away so that we tend to attract different beach goers. The one thing they have that we dont is a beer and wine permit. We have applied and should be able to sell beer and wine too. There is a store next door that sells ice cream, too. We capture our clam shack customers because they are already at our restaurant and we offer discounts if you get ice cream from us. The beach club across the street has a take out window for members only. They sell more deli items not clam shack food. They send customers our way because they do not have a business model that includes food sales. They're receive income from membership and parking. We have a large and loyal customer base and a great reputation. Our outside seating area is grassy and has an inlet with a small beach for kids (and parents) to play. We also have plenty of parking which is difficult at the beach.
