Funding Usage
The goal is to open a second recovery house for the Wilmington NC area for women. The money will be used to for the down payment for the second location. The plan is to purchase a house that is bigger and can hold 10 plus women. Currently, Mary Ann’s Safe Place House holds 6 women and has been at full capacity the last 8 months. I have had to turn away so many women seeking safe housing from Wilmington Treatment Center that I feel a second house would provide gap in women’s housing in this area. The community needs more above average housing for women suffering from substance use disorder.

Business Plan
My plan is to expand this recovery housing model to provide more safe housing options for women. In the area we have very few good options for women and my goal is to provide safe affordable housing. April 20th, 2020 my mother passed away from alcohol poisoning. My heart and life changed forever on that day. I was unable to have a funeral for my mom so I decided to take my inheritance and dedicate the house to her. Mary Ann’s Safe Place House is dedicated to my mom and she always made everyone feel at home. My mother was a successful business women and she passed that down to me her only daughter. I have my own personal experience with addiction and long story short I’m coming up on 9 years drug and alcohol free. But this is not about me…this is about remembering my mom and doing what I know she would want me to do. Serve my community.

Self Identified Competition
Seeking serenity Fleming house Oxford house for women All owned my amazing women but we need more space for incoming women seeking housing. I lived in 2 of the options for women’s housing in Wilmington. I took notes and made my house based on what I liked about my experience and what I did not like about my experience. I ask my girls to communicate at all times and give grace to our fellows. It is important that the residents in the house feel they have a voice. The house is structured like a traditional recovery house but has an autonomous feel as well. There are rules that are in the handbook and each women in the house is held accountable. Each resident is treated as an individual and not a check. I saw it so many times when I lived in recovery houses ladies would get away with things just because they paid rent in time. Not in my house. I also have a partnership with A Safe Place and they provide rent assistance. Recently they had to close their shelter leaving a huge gap in the housing for women. I have built relationships with domestic violence shelter in town and those relationships have saved the lives of many just by getting them off the street. I have tried to do this on my own again and I just can’t. I am asking for help because this is the last option I have.
