Scraps of Hope Designs 013828368 | Government Grant Application

Scraps of Hope Designs | Application Preview

Scraps of Hope Designs is seeking government grants to support its business growth through the purchase of inventory, store displays, and woodworking tools for sign making and furniture refurbishing. The business plan focuses on expanding retail offerings from wholesale distributors, enhancing online presence via social media and its website, and introducing one-on-one painting classes for customers.

The owner aims to generate enough revenue to hire a salesperson for the retail location, allowing more time for furniture rehabilitation and the creation of unique home furnishings. To maintain customer engagement, there is a plan to send out a monthly newsletter to interested customers.

The owner emphasizes a strong work ethic and a passion for crafting wooden home decorations, backed by over 20 years of experience and a solid educational background in business. With five years in retail, the owner is prepared to channel dedication and planning into building the business from the ground up.

The competition is perceived as minimal since the business offers personalized services such as custom furniture restoration and commissioned painting, which larger stores do not provide. The unique selling point of Scraps of Hope Designs lies in its commitment to exceptional customer service, aiming to forge personal connections with customers to fulfill their specific needs, an aspect that the owner believes is often overlooked in the retail sector.

  • General Information

    Location: Lincoln, NE, United States

    Length of Operation: 1

    Number of Employees:

    Annual Gross Income:

    Annual Gross Expense:

  • Funding Usage

I would use the funding to purchase inventory, store displays and additional tools for my woodworking (sign making), and furniture refurbishing equipment.

  • Business Plan

As I continue to grow the business and add additional retail items from wholesale distributors, I will also grow the online portion of my business through marketing on social media, as well as my own website. I want to offer one-on-one painting classes for my customers as well. My goal is to have enough revenue to hire a salesperson to man the retail location so that I can continue to rehab furniture and create new home furnishing pieces. By doing so, I will have more one-of-a-kind items for my ever growing customer base. I plan to create a monthly newsletter/sales bulletin to email my customers that have opted in during their original purchase transaction. I am a very hard worker and take pride in everything I do. I have made wooden home decorations for over 20 years and it has been my dream to have my own sales location for just as long. I studied many aspects of business in college and I feel very prepared to take my hobbies to the next step at this point. I have worked in retail for over 5 years and I know what it will take to make it work: dedication, planning, and follow through to my customers and their needs. I am married, stable and ready to build a business from the ground up.

  • Self Identified Competition

I don't know that I will have any competitors that can offer what I can to my customers. I do custom furniture restoration, make handmade wooden signs and decorations and I will retail the items I personally use. Sherwin WIlliams and big box stores carry paint products but don't offer individualized services (commissioned painting, one-on-one paint classes, etc) like I do. Craft stores sell the products I use to make home decor, but don't offer customized signs like I do. My business is customer service and satisfaction first. I have found that this is a lost art in most retail establishments. By getting to know my customers, and their individual needs and wants, I feel that my business will stand out over any other.
