The opportunities are endless for Birka Beginnings as we are an independent foundation with an eagerness to see women thrive after leaving abuse. Our greatest challenges are having a plethora of resources including but not limited to housing, transportation, school & work preparation and career readiness. We seek to be a one stop hub when a woman is ready to begin again. This is one of the hardest challenges to face and knowing many don’t make it out unscathed, it is my fervent desire to provide resources and trust to those who need it most. I am motivated to help those in need of a new beginning from the tragedy of DV. As a survivor, lawyer, mother and partner, I feel compelled to create the space to give back the skills and knowledge I have obtained to those still in need. My story began the day I decided to seek my fresh start, because I knew if I stayed my life would be over. Today, in my city alone there are roughly 3,000 families displaced due to DV. I want to reduce that number with tangible resources, solid transitional plans in a safe haven full of opportunities for work, school, skills and an all around fresh start.Birka Beginnings is founded by a woman who knows the power of a fresh start after Domestic Violence. She was inspired to be who she needed when she was in their position. One of the main reasons women stay in DV is due to a lack of guidance and finances. Ashley realized the services needed surmounted the resources many women already did not have. How can she provide these services to save the lives of women in DV…? That is when Birka Beginnings was born. Knowing 1 in 4 women in Michigan face the challenges of DV deterring their lives, Birka Beginnings answers the call for a refuge for women & children to begin again.

Self Identified Competition
Right now there is very little, almost no competitors. We have a local YMCA that we will be working with to help many families. Birka Beginnings is uniquely qualified to carry this mission. Ashley went on to become an Attorney, and founded a non-profit solely to serve the community in an impactful way and ultimately be known as a foundation women can depend on.
