Roxy's Downtown | Application Preview
Roxy's Downtown is seeking government grant funding to upgrade its lighting system, which includes new LED lights, a spotlight, electrical improvements, and a new light board and panel. The business aims to enhance its offerings by increasing the number of performances, expanding its season ticket base through marketing efforts, attracting regional and national talents, providing internships, and initiating outreach programs with local educational institutions.
The reasoning for granting this funding centers on Roxy's commitment to enriching the cultural landscape in downtown Wichita. The theater focuses on diverse productions that educate and entertain while creating professional opportunities for both emerging and established local talent. With a track record of sold-out performances and extensions, Roxy's reflects the voices of various communities.
In terms of competition, Roxy’s does not consider other local theaters rivals, as they believe that theater benefits the community as a whole. Instead, they focus on their unique aspects—an intimate venue with only 152 seats, presenting a wide range of subjects and multicultural works that have been likened to Broadway and Off-Broadway quality. This distinctiveness provides Roxy's a competitive edge while fostering a sense of inclusivity and representation within the arts.

Business Plan
We plan to grow the business by offering more performances of each production, expanding our season ticket holder base through advertising, bringing in regional and national talent, offering internships and begin the outreach program with local high schools, community colleges and the areas surrounding universities. We are actively increasing the culture in downtown Wichita by the offerings of our productions, covering a diverse range of subject matter, entertaining, educating, and providing professional experiences for young talent as well as keeping our established talent here in the city so that they don't have to go elsewhere to look for work. Our productions routinely have sold out performances, extensions to the date of closings and represent voices from all communities.
-
Self Identified Competition
While we don't see any other theatre as a competitor as theatre anywhere is good for all of us - Music Theatre of Wichita, Mosley Street Melodrama and the Crown Arts Collaborative. We are an intimate space of only 152 seats that presents productions that cover a large array of subject matter, topics, multi-cultural productions. Our productions have sometimes been called the equivalent of Broadway and Off-Broadway productions and we are honored to represent all voices within the community.
