Basic Batter 84-4758732 | Government Grant Application

Basic Batter | Application Preview

Basic Batter is seeking government grants to expand its baking business by increasing capacity and improving operations. The funding will be utilized for purchasing energy-efficient appliances, paying off business credit card debt related to ingredients, website maintenance, and equipment, as well as acquiring necessary storage supplies like shelving and containers for bulk ingredients.

In 2022, Basic Batter completed 32 wedding orders and plans to ramp up production over the next five years, including the introduction of dog treats. Currently, the business struggles to fulfill last-minute orders due to limited resources, often requiring 2-5 days' notice. The goal is to improve equipment and increase daily order capacity, not just on weekends.

The business specializes in organically baked goods, catering to various dietary restrictions such as paleo, keto, gluten-free, and vegan. It began in 2020 at a Farmers Market during the COVID-19 pandemic and has since grown in demand, with customers frequently reaching out for orders.

Basic Batter faces competition from other home bakers and bakeries that offer gluten-free and vegan options. However, it differentiates itself through exceptional customer service and flexibility, addressing specific dietary needs that larger stores often overlook. The funding would enable Basic Batter to enhance inventory management, boost profitability, and offer a wider range of baked goods to meet customer demand.

  • Funding Usage

I would like to expand my current capacity and grow my business. Do do that I need: - more energy efficient and updated appliances - pay off my business credit card, which was used to pay for baking ingredients, website maintenance, and equipment. - storage supplies, such as shelving and containers to properly store bulk ingredients

  • Business Plan

In 2022, I completed 32 weddings and other orders on the weekends. My goal for the next 5 years to in increase that number and to also incorporate dog treats. With the supplies and equipment I currently have, I have very limited capacity for orders. When people call and asking for current day or next day desserts, I have to turn them away. I need at least 2-5 day notice. My goal is to expand my equipment and to fulfil even more orders daily not just on weekends. The products I make are organically baked goods. I make traditional baked goods, as well as desserts with dietary restrictions, such a paleo, keto, gluten free, and vegan. My business started with me selling cookies at a Farmers Market in 2020, during the height of the Covid Pandemic, to people emailing or calling me on a daily basis to place orders. I would love to be able to offer more products to people who are looking for the last-minute baked good item. If I had this funding, it would allow me to purchase the supplies and equipment needed to keep inventory on hand and be able to increase my profits and produce even more baked goods.

  • Self Identified Competition

Other home-bakers Other bakeries that offer gluten free and vegan options I offer a lot of flexibility and solid customer service. I am able to bake for people with very specific dietary needs that bigger stores just don't have the time for. Also, when engaged couples ask me to make their wedding cake/desserts, they know that not only are they getting a great product, but that their cake/desserts will be delivered with care and attention.
