Scribner Law, P.C. 87-0513662 | Government Grant Application

Scribner Law, P.C. | Application Preview

Scribner Law, P.C. is applying for government grants to enhance its technology, improve cloud services and protections, and transition into a virtual practice with video capabilities. The firm recognizes the rapidly changing legal market and aims to focus on two key areas: optimizing virtual offices for video appointments and secure document sharing, while also offering flat-rate services to attract underserved clients.

The firm believes that securing funding will enable it to expand in estate planning and elder law, which are increasingly in demand as the baby boomer population requires more services. Going virtual will allow clients to access legal help from home, and savings from reduced overhead can be passed on to make legal services more affordable.

The firm faces competition from non-lawyer internet services, outdated billing systems of other small firms, and inexperienced legal practitioners. However, it has a competitive edge due to its established reputation since 1993 and the flexibility of being a solo practice. With a background in business and over 30 years of legal experience, the firm is well-positioned to adapt and better serve the community, particularly those who cannot afford traditional legal fees.

  • Business Plan

The legal market is changing very rapidly. There are two areas to expand: 1. maximize virtual offices with video appointments and safe sharing of documents; expand flat-rate services and possibly lower prices to attract a portion of the major market of under served public. Areas that I wish to grow are estate planning and elder law. This is a growing market with baby boomers needing many services. Becoming virtual so clients can stay at home for these services and use savings from virtual offices to reduce overhead costs can cause those savings to be passed on to these clients and aid people who cannot now afford a lawyer.

  • Self Identified Competition

    1. Internet non-lawyers and various apps which give people inferior information and "forms" leaving them to guess if they are really protecting their estate. 2. Other small law firms still operating on the same billing system as the last several decades. 3. Law "shops" using inexperienced lawyers/paralegals to handle what can be sophisticated issues. This successful firm has operated under my direction since 1993, as a small/midsize firm in this market. It is now a solo practice so it is easier to make quick changes and keep its overhead low. I have both the business degrees and long experience in management, as well as over 30 years experience as a lawyer in the areas of law I am trying to streamline in order to help a portion of the community that wouldn't be able to afford a standard firm's prices.
