Arctic Safari | Application Preview
Arctic Safari is applying for government grants to enhance its operations by acquiring durable suspension components, recovery gear, camping supplies, and improving its web presence and marketing efforts. The company plans to reinvest its profits into expanding its fleet of fully-equipped off-road trucks aimed at exploring Alaska. Future initiatives include organizing local events, collaborating with small businesses, and partnering with veteran organizations to provide complimentary safaris for wounded and disabled veterans. They also envision a partnership with a family-owned lodge in Waterton, Canada, to offer discounted stays for customers traveling from Anchorage.
The owner, Jason, a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, emphasizes his dedication and customer service expertise. His background includes significant achievements in retail management and a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Currently in project management at Halliburton, he possesses the determination to succeed.
In a competitive landscape, Arctic Safari differentiates itself by being veteran-owned, providing personalized customer service, and offering features that competitors lack. Unlike Alaska Overlander, Northern Nomads, and Alaska Adventure, Arctic Safari provides greater mileage options, more equipment with each truck, and no restrictions on unpaved roads. The business intends to attract a broad customer base, including outdoor enthusiasts and servicemen, through competitive pricing and unique programs like a 'Trash' initiative that rewards customers for environmental efforts.

Business Plan
To invest profits from the business into purchasing additional vehicles to grow our fleet of off road capable, fully loaded trucks ready to explore Alaska. Future plans are to host local events, partner with local small businesses, and partner with veteran organizations to provide an all expense paid safari for wounded and disabled veterans. Also, by having family who has a lodge in Waterton, Canada, we are thinking it would be pretty cool to have a partnership with the lodge to offer the ability for people to drive from Anchorage to Waterton and having a discounted rate at the lodge. Jason (51% owner) served in the United States Marine Corps from 2006 – 2014 where I received awards for good conduct and valor. Upon leaving the military I began working retail where I excelled in customer service and was among the top 500 employees for Zumiez in 2014. I continued working in customer service while working for Volvo, and in 2021 I graduated from University of Alaska, Anchorage with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. I currently work in project management and manage accounts for Halliburton, Nachurs, and Clariant. I have a strong sense of determination, drive, and the inability to quit.

Self Identified Competition
Alaska Overlander - Offers a similar product at a much higher rate, 150 mi/day, longer minimum rental days, while targeting a specific demographic and providing less equipment per vehicle. Northern Nomads - Does not allow vehicles on unpaved roads, 125 mi/day limit, majority of vehicles are camper vans which appeals to a small demographic. Alaska Adventure - Does not allow vehicles on unpaved roads, 150 mi/day customers have to take taxi to their location, majority of vehicles are jeeps which limits space for gear and passengers. Statistics show that the majority of people prefer to do business with a veteran owned business. With a strong background in customer service, I can provide greater flexibility to ensure the customer is taken care of. From pick up and drop offs, having kayaks and fishing gear to rent, to helping customers plan their trip at no additional cost. Because Arctic Safari is veteran owned, we are going to offer a military and first responder discount to appeal to the large number of military personnel in the Anchorage area. We will have a much larger demographic by targeting everyone from hikers, photographers, fisherman, and hunters. We will have more affordable daily rates, more gear and equipment with each truck, higher daily mileage with the option of unlimited miles, no road restrictions, and also discounted rates for trips 7+ days. We will also have a "Trash" program where a customer can fill one of our trash bags with garbage they picked up, and in return they can receive a gift card to one of the local businesses we have partnered with.
