Academic Mentoring, LLC | Application Preview
Academic Mentoring, LLC is seeking government grants to enhance its services aimed at supporting student-clients. The requested funding will go towards creating personalized materials, acquiring three laptops, offsetting transportation costs, maintaining a website with an online resource library, publishing printed materials for clients and nonprofits, securing site insurance for various presentation venues, designing business cards, and hiring an accountant.
The business has established several key partnerships. It will provide free college planning services at the Gateway Community Center in Boonton, NJ, targeting residents of Boonton, Lincoln Park, and Butler. Additionally, it plans to collaborate with local athletic camps to guide student athletes on leveraging their talents for college admissions and scholarships. Academic Mentoring, LLC is also in discussions with a company called Withium for potential contracting as part of their Employee Benefits program.
The rationale for funding approval is based on the distinct need for specialized educational support amidst a mental health crisis that has overwhelmed school counseling services. This has left many families with limited options, relying on private services that may not offer quality support. Academic Mentoring, LLC aims to provide ethical, student-centered mentoring through a team of certified NJ public school teachers and counselors, equipped to address the unique needs of students beyond regular school hours.
In terms of competition, the business identifies entities like C2Education and Jackson Education. However, its competitive edge lies in its team of dedicated, licensed educators who are committed to empowering students and families through accessible, informed guidance tailored to each individual’s needs.

Funding Usage
Personalized materials for student-clients, 3 laptops, offsetting transportation costs, maintaining website to have an online resource library, publication of printed materials for clients & nonprofits, site insurance for presentations (at firehouse, rec center, church basements), business cards, procuring an accountant because I'm a teacher by day and have never run my own business

Business Plan
Several partnerships are in the works. First, a nonprofit space called Gateway Community Center located in Boonton, NJ has solicited my services. I will deliver college planning services for no charge to the residents of Boonton, Lincoln Park, and Butler. Will replicate this with Dover College Promise. Second, as a former coach, I will be partnering with local athletic camps to help student athletes understand how they can leverage their talents to gain college acceptances & scholarships. Third, a company called Withium is considering contracting my services as a part of their Employee Benefits. They want me to present to their HR department asap! I have curated a niche small business comprised of moonlighting certified NJ public school teachers and counselors who have the instructional and clinical skills to meet the needs of students that extend beyond the scope of the school day. The current mental health crisis is consuming the services of guidance departments and counselors function primarily as psychiatric social workers. Students and families are left to use private, independent counselors. Unfortunately, most of these franchised services are staffed with salespersons disguised as counselors, who think their alma mater somehow qualifies them to counsel and educate families. It's unethical and preys upon the fears and anxiety of the students and their parents. Academic Mentoring, LLC is the counterforce in that, and I've curated a group of colleague-associates who are all like-minded, student-centered advocates with a wealth of information ready to change lives.
