Cloudland Theater | Application Preview
Cloudland Theater is applying for government grants to fund a building remodel, which includes the installation of a stage, and to purchase audio equipment. The theater plans to launch with 2-3 shows weekly, initially staffed by the owners, with a goal to expand to 4-5 shows per week and hire 4-10 employees over time. As ticket sales grow, the theater anticipates an increase in monthly net income over the next five years.
The funding is crucial as the theater aims to fill a significant gap in the south Minneapolis area, which currently lacks a small venue for music, comedy, and literary events. The chosen location on East Lake Street is deemed ideal for attracting a viable audience.
In terms of competition, there are no similar spaces within immediate proximity hosting shows, particularly smaller music events, although venues like the Hook & Ladder Theater and Cedar Cultural Center exist in other neighborhoods.
Cloudland Theater's competitive advantage lies in its celebration of Minneapolis’s diverse music scene. It aims to provide a venue for niche events such as jazz piano, flamenco guitar performances, author presentations, and screenings of local art films, all at moderate prices. This focus on specialized programming distinguishes it from other events in the area.

Business Plan
Cloudland Theater will open with 2-3 shows per week and only owners as workers. We plan to expand our event calendar to 4-5 shows per week and hire 4-10 employees. We project our monthly net income to increase as ticket sales increase over the next 5 years. Our venue offers this area a place for community events that is currently lacking. There is not a small space for music, comedy and literature in south Minneapolis, and this block of East Lake street is ideal for such a theatre. Our projections show the neighborhood has a viable audience for weekly events.

Self Identified Competition
There is currently no such space in our immediate area that hosts shows, especially smaller & quieter music events. The Hook & Ladder Theater, Cedar Cultural Center, and Moon Palace Bookstore have events but are in other areas. Cloudland Theater celebrates the diverse music scene in Minneapolis, and focuses its events accordingly. There is currently no space where people can regularly gather to listen to jazz piano or flamenco guitar for moderate ticket prices, enjoy a book club with a presentation by the author, or view art films made by local filmmakers.
