  • Funding Usage

The pandemic decimated our income and savings. We spent whatever we had to pay the rent and keep the lights on. We will use the funding to build out our facility to improve the grooming and training area, which is currently unheated and can't be used during the cold winter months. In addition, we will extend our marketing to attract new and more clients. We will also use it for a cushion for slow seasonal times when income is lower but the rent and utilities must still be paid.

  • Business Plan

We are going to expand our reach in the city by widening our walking routes to include additional neighborhoods. We are going to increase marketing in the local neighborhood of the facility to draw more clients to the facility for daycare, boarding, training, and grooming. We hope to purchase a vehicle to enable us to provide pickup/dropoff services for daycare and boarding, widening our reach, and allowing us to compete with other similar facilities. Paws & Rec has been caring for dogs since 2014. We offer a premium service that far exceeds the competition. We treat them like family. They are always supervised and never left alone, unlike our competitors. We don't use cages. Our facility is set up just like someone's home. Dogs sleep on blankets or doggie beds, and if staying overnight, may even sleep on the bed of the attendant. Unfortunately, the pandemic really decimated us, as we had just signed a new lease one month prior to the pandemic closing down the city. At the time, we were still using sub-contractors for all our services. We only started with employees with W2s in the 4th quarter of 2020. Because of this, it precluded us from receiving PPP loans and tax credits. Instead, we had to dip into our savings that was earmarked for building out the facility, and instead used the savings to pay our rent and utilities, all the while being shut down without revenue. New competitors have since cropped up, like Dogtopia, a large franchise operation with deep pockets. Without additional funding, we will be unable to continue to compete.

  • Self Identified Competition

Dogtopia is a franchise that has been opening multiple locations in the NYC area. They don't offer walking or grooming services, but their daycare and boarding occupancy is significant. We are a small family run business and treat dogs like family as well. No crates. Never left unsupervised. Our competition uses crates and leaves dogs alone from 11pm till 6am the following morning. If a poor dog has an accident in their crate, they must sit in their filth till someone arrives in the morning. This is inhumane and we don't allow it!
